Welcome to Turkey and the vibrant city of Istanbul, where East meets West. On arrival at Istanbul Airport, you’ll be met by your local guide and transferred to your hotel in the heart of the city. After time to settle in, enjoy your first taste of Turkish culture this evening with a memorable dinner cruise along the Bosphorus.

Day Two: Istanbul City Tour

Day Two: Istanbul City Tour

After breakfast, discover some of Istanbul’s most iconic sights on a guided walking tour through the city’s historic heart. Visit the ancient Hippodrome, once the centre of Byzantine sporting and social life, before exploring the magnificent Blue Mosque with its striking domes and famous blue Iznik tiles.
Continue to the awe-inspiring Hagia Sophia, one of the world’s greatest architectural masterpieces, before enjoying lunch at a local restaurant. This afternoon, visit the opulent Topkapi Palace, home to Ottoman sultans for centuries, and nearby Hagia Irene Church. Your day concludes with free time to browse the colourful stalls and winding lanes of the legendary Grand Bazaar.

Day Three: Spice Market & Leisure Time

Day Three: Spice Market & Leisure Time

After breakfast, soak up the sights, sounds and aromas of Istanbul at the famous Spice Market, one of the city’s oldest covered bazaars. Browse stalls overflowing with exotic spices, Turkish delight, teas and local delicacies.

The remainder of the day is free for you to explore at your own pace. Perhaps relax in a traditional Turkish hammam, enjoy a Bosphorus-side café or continue discovering Istanbul’s fascinating mix of history and culture. (see FAQs for more to explore below).

Day Four: Fly to Cappadocia & day at leisure

Day Four: Fly to Cappadocia & day at leisure

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your included domestic flight to Cappadocia, one of Turkey’s most extraordinary regions. On arrival, meet your local guide and transfer to your hotel.

The rest of the day is at leisure to relax and take in Cappadocia’s unique landscape of fairy chimneys, cave dwellings and dramatic valleys.

Early risers may choose to join an optional hot air balloon flight at sunrise for unforgettable views over Cappadocia’s spectacular volcanic landscapes (see FAQs for more to explore below).

Today’s included touring showcases some of the region’s most famous sights. Visit the surreal rock formations of Devrent Valley, the panoramic viewpoint at Uchisar Castle and the UNESCO-listed Goreme Open Air Museum, home to ancient rock-cut churches and monasteries.

Continue to the valleys of Pasabag and Zelve, known for their striking fairy chimneys, before exploring the riverside town of Avanos, famous for its centuries-old pottery traditions.

Day Six: Valleys & Underground Cities

Day Six: Valleys & Underground Cities

Today’s exploration of Cappadocia begins in the beautiful Red Valley, renowned for its colourful rock formations, before continuing to the charming village of Cavusin.

Later, discover the fascinating Ozkonak Underground City, an ancient subterranean settlement carved deep into the rock. After lunch, enjoy views across Pigeon Valley and visit Ortahisar Castle, the largest fairy chimney in Cappadocia.

This evening is at leisure, with your tour leader able to recommend local restaurants should you wish to enjoy a final meal together.

Day Seven: Departure, fly home via Istanbul

Enjoy breakfast at your hotel and some free time before transfer to the airport for your flight to Istanbul to connect with your international flight.

Essential Information

Passports and visas

If you are visiting Turkey, your passport should be valid for at least 150 days from the date you arrive and there should be a full blank page for the entry and exit stamps. You can find more detail about the requirements for entry into Turkey on the website of the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Visa Information
Turkey E-Visa - From 2 March 2020, British nationals travelling for tourism or business purposes will no longer need a visa to enter Turkey for visits of up to 90 days within a 180-day period.

Health requirements
Compulsory vaccinations: None.

All clients are responsible for acquainting themselves with up to date health information of the countries being visited and where necessary take the required precautions. Important Information
Transfer time:
Transfer time from Istanbul airport to the hotel is around 60-90 minutes depending on traffic.
 
Time difference:
In British summer time Turkey is 2 hours ahead of the UK.

Dress code
Layers are usually best, casual, cotton, lightweight daytime wear is the order of the day. Comfortable shoes are a must for sightseeing.

Fitness
A reasonable level of fitness is required as there is a lot of walking, sometimes on uneven surfaces.

Currency
Turkish Lira. Please note Euro and GBP are also widely accepted in this region.

Gratuities
We suggest a Group Collection to cover guides and drivers of approx £50 per person. Your Tour Leader will collect this on your behalf and distribute it accordingly, thus relieving you of the burden of who, when and how much to tip. As is customary, ‘the hat’ will be passed around for the driver and guide on all optional excursions. For any meals that are not included in your itinerary, or taxi fares, your Tour Leader can advise of an appropriate percentage add on.
