A full day of sightseeing takes us to the city of Siena, with its maze of steep and narrow streets. Nestled in the Tuscan Hills, this vibrant university city is also one of the greatest art centres of Italy, with a profusion of fine architecture.

Day Four: Discover Florence - The 'City of Art'
Today, we discover the highlights of Florence on this fascinating two-hour walking tour through the heart of the city, taking in its magnificent architecture, Renaissance heritage and historic landmarks.
After arriving in Florence by train, we begin with a brief stop outside the Basilica of Santa Maria Novella, where we explore its importance to Florence’s history and architecture, including its distinctive Renaissance façade.
From here, we stroll along the elegant Via Tornabuoni, one of Florence’s most prestigious streets and home to some of Italy’s and the world’s most renowned fashion boutiques. Along the way, we pass Palazzo Strozzi, now a celebrated museum and once the residence of one of the most influential families of Renaissance Florence.
We continue to Piazza della Repubblica, located at the heart of the city and built on the site of the ancient Roman forum, before making our way to Florence’s magnificent Cathedral and Baptistery. Here, admire the exterior of one of the world’s largest churches and the spectacular dome designed by Filippo Brunelleschi. We’ll discover the fascinating story behind its construction and the remarkable engineering that made it possible.
Our route then takes us through the atmospheric streets of medieval Florence, where narrow lanes are lined with traditional shops, cafés and restaurants.
A few minutes later, we arrive at the impressive Piazza della Signoria, the historic political centre of Florence. Here, we’ll see the Palazzo Vecchio and an extraordinary collection of sculptures that played a defining role in the history of art, including a replica of Michelangelo’s David.
The tour concludes at the iconic Ponte Vecchio, instantly recognisable by its distinctive silhouette and famous historic goldsmiths’ shops spanning the bridge.

Day Six: Explore Lucca & Pisa
We start the day by discovering the historic charm of Lucca on this fascinating walking tour through one of Tuscany’s most beautifully preserved cities. Learn about Lucca’s rich history and discover why its magnificent Renaissance-era city walls have become one of its most enduring symbols.
Walking along one of the main streets of the ancient Roman city, we pass the birthplace of Giacomo Puccini, Lucca’s celebrated composer, before arriving at Piazza San Michele. Built on the site of the original Roman forum, the square is home to the striking Church of San Michele in Foro, widely regarded as one of the city’s most beautiful churches.
Continuing through the historic center, we’ll discover some of Lucca’s traditional shops and see the impressive Guinigi Tower, one of the city’s most distinctive landmarks, famous for the trees growing on its rooftop. We’ll also pass the Church of San Frediano, another of Lucca’s magnificent historic churches.
The tour then takes us onto the famous city walls, where we can enjoy panoramic views across Lucca and admire Palazzo Pfanner and its beautiful gardens.
From the walls, we continue to Piazza dell’Anfiteatro, one of Lucca’s most iconic and atmospheric squares. Built on the site of the ancient Roman amphitheater, its distinctive oval shape and surrounding historic buildings make it a memorable place to conclude our exploration of the city.

- A reasonable level of fitness/mobility is required as we include plenty of sightseeing/travelling & walking, some with early starts.

- This tour includes visits to some of Italy’s most popular sites, where there is an added risk of pickpockets – so caution is advised as far as money and jewellery. Your local guides will advise on care in the most crowded sites.
- Ride the funicular railway to the charming village of Montecatini Alto. Approx cost € 7.50 return.
