Is a Solos Exclusive Trip Right For You?

Is a Solos Exclusive Trip Right For You?

Our Solos Exclusives are our most popular holiday style—small by design and reserved entirely for our guests. You won’t be "one of the only" solo travellers in a large resort; you’ll be part of a small group of 100% like-minded individuals in a property that is exclusively ours.

Who this trip style is for:

  • The First-Timer: Perfect if you’re looking to dip your toe into the Caribbean without the "what-ifs." We handle all the logistics—from flights to transfers—providing the ultimate safety net. With an experienced Tour Leader on-site to ensure everything runs smoothly, you get the security of a group holiday with the total freedom to spend your time exactly how you want.

  • The Social Soul: For those who want the "buzz" of a group but the sanctuary of their own space. You’ll find a warm, easygoing atmosphere at the Captain’s Quarters and plenty of opportunities to swap stories over your included dinners, all while enjoying the comfort of a private room with no single supplement.

  • The Explorer: For travellers who want the freedom to choose between a quiet morning on our secluded beach, a sailing adventure in the harbour, or a night of steelpan music at Shirley Heights. You have total flexibility—join every optional excursion or simply enjoy the peace of the ocean-view pool.

  • The Authentic Traveller: Ideal if you prefer intimate, family-run hotels with a story to tell. Hosted by Feona and Colin, the Catamaran Hotel offers a home-away-from-home feel, providing the kind of personal, heartfelt service you only find in a property exclusively reserved for our Solos guests.

Relax, Unwind or Explore: The Choice is Yours

The private swimming pool boasts stunning ocean views! So grab a sun lounger, order a drink from the hotel bar and relax and unwind, with the pool just a few steps to the small beach. None of the beaches in Antigua are private however, it is rare for anyone other than hotel guests to use this stretch of sand.

Feeling active? There are no organised beach activities but there's the option to sail straight from the beach, go diving, and the hire of sunfish dinghies and rowing boats can be arranged via the hotel reception. Here are some popular optional excursions available:

  • Shirley Heights Sunset Party: The island's iconic Sunday night BBQ, famous for its steelpan music and panoramic harbour views.

  • Wadadli Cats: A scenic catamaran cruise along including a delicious lunch.

  • Stingray City: A unique opportunity to see with friendly stingrays

Accommodation Options

The 18 tropical-inspired rooms fall into seven categories, with sizes, facilities and views reflected in our individual room prices. Standard rooms are the smallest and offer all the amenities needed for a comfortable stay. As rooms do not have a terrace or balcony, a small table and chairs will be set out in the courtyard to ensure you don’t miss out on those blissful ocean views. The ground-floor beachfront rooms have a shared terrace and are a few steps from the hotel’s small beach. Superior-View Suites are found on the first floor and offer breathtaking panoramic views of the beach and Falmouth Bay beyond, from the private balcony.

Three wood-panelled Captain’s Cabins are set apart from the main building and overlook the swimming pool and offer private access to the beach. Also featured are two recently refurbished, individual Cottage Suites which are set apart from the main building. The upper floor cottage offers full sea views and the lower floor cottage partial sea views. The first-floor Admiral’s Suite is the most spacious and boasts fabulous views of Falmouth Bay and the beach from the balcony.
Our Location: Antigua

Our Location: Antigua

This stunning island has much to offer. The lively Pigeon Point Beach is a short drive away from the hotel, as is Shirley Heights, an 18th Century fort with incredible views. You can experience the Antiguan favourite - a Sunday night sunset party here, or enjoy a communal barbecue where locals, the yachting set and visitors alike let their hair down. No visit to a Caribbean island would be complete without a catamaran cruise. On our circumnavigation tour, you’ll enjoy a full day's adventure cruise around Antigua’s dazzling coast with the chance to snorkel and swim in the turquoise waters.

Trip Reviews

Amazing holiday

I loved my stay at the Catamaran Hotel. It's a magical place! The views from my room and from breakfast and dinner are amazing. The rooms are charming and had everything you might need, including tea and coffee making facilities.

Best experience

Have just returned from The Catamaran Hotel in Antigua. I had the best experience. The hotel is right on the beach, 5 steps and I was on the sand (no rushing to get a sunbed). The view from the hotel is to die for, I could sit there for hours watching the pelicans and boats! Monica, our tour leader was great, she went above and beyond her job role to ensure every guest was happy.

Anna

Smashing group

Antigua was my first Solos holiday - just wondering how am I going to top it? The hotel and its setting were exactly as it said on the tin - in keeping with the surroundings and culture. Our tour leader Monica was excellent, going above and beyond - always smiling! What a smashing group of people to spend 10 days with, great banter and much laughter. Thank you all!

Gratuities
There is often confusion on the question of gratuities, since it frequently depends on the type of holiday, location and, of course, your attitude towards tipping, as to what is normally expected. In order to give you a rough idea, we have given appropriate guidance below. Your Tour Leader will be on hand to offer advice or suggestions if required but gratuities are offered entirely at the sole discretion of the individual. We suggest a group collection to cover drivers, porters and hotel staff of $35.00, (or the equivalent amount in local currency).

Your Tour Leader will collect this on your behalf and distribute it accordingly, thus relieving you of the burden of who, when and how much to tip. The tipping of housekeeping will be left to your individual discretion (a small amount left in your room on departure should cover this and would be much appreciated). As is customary, ‘the hat’ will be passed around for the driver and guide on all optional excursions. For any meals that are not included in your itinerary, or taxi fares, your Tour Leader can advise of an appropriate add-on.
Dress Code
Casual, cotton, lightweight daytime wear is the order of the day. Comfortable shoes are a must for sightseeing. Smart casual clothes will be ideal for the evening, with the emphasis throughout being informal but with no vests in the restaurants in the evenings. Early and late season evenings can be cool so do ensure that you take a cardigan or jacket and even some rainwear – particularly in May and June when you may experience some spring thunderstorms followed by scorching days!
