Day Three: Grand Canyon

We take a morning drive to the Grand Canyon West Rim, sacred land of the Hualapai Native Americans, most certainly one of the highlights of our trip. The Grand Canyon is the result of millions of years of wind and water erosion, an endless expanse of shapes, colours and impenetrable shadow. Upon arrival, we board a hop-on hop-off shuttle to visit the park (public shuttle). Stopping off at Eagle and Guano point will give you two unique perspectives of the canyon. Optional: walk along the glass-bottomed cantilevered bridge known as the Skywalk ($30 payable locally).

Day Five: Las Vegas to Palm Springs Via Calico

Day Five: Las Vegas to Palm Springs Via Calico

We travel over several superb stretches of the Southwest to arrive in Calico, a typical Far West town named for the multicoloured surrounding mountains. Visiting this typical silver-mining town that boomed after the discovery of silver in the foothills in 1881, the town was restored by the Knott family, known for its jams and ghost town in California. With a welcome by cowboys and sheriffs in old-style outfits, we will feel like we are going back to the Far West of the 1880s. Following our visit, enjoy some free time at Barstow Premium Outlets for some highly discounted shopping. Finally, we make our way to Palm Springs and dinner with the group.

Day Six: Joshua Tree National Park

Day Six: Joshua Tree National Park

Today we will embark on an excursion to Joshua Tree National Park, with a local guide. Joshua Tree NP extends over 3000 square kilometers of high-altitude desert with unusual geological formations and a unique ecological environment. It was named after the type of tree that grows in the region. The park encompasses some of the most interesting geologic displays found in California's deserts. Rugged mountains of twisted rock and exposed granite monoliths testify to the tremendous geological forces that shaped and formed this land. During the trip, our guide will take us to various viewpoints in the park. We also have some free time for self-exploration before heading back to Palm Springs.

Gratuities
There is often confusion on the question of gratuities, since it frequently depends on the type of holiday, location and, of course, your attitude towards tipping, as to what is normally expected. To give you a rough idea, we have given appropriate guidance below. The Tour Leader will be on hand to offer advice or suggestions if required but gratuities are offered entirely at the sole discretion of the individual. We suggest a group collection at the beginning of your holiday to cover drivers, guides, porters and hotel staff of approximately $60. Your Tour Leader will collect this on your behalf and distribute it accordingly, thus relieving you of the burden of who, when and how much to tip.
