Day Two: Golden Circle Day Tour & Northern Lights

Day Two: Golden Circle Day Tour & Northern Lights

This unforgettable day trip takes us along Iceland’s legendary Golden Circle, showcasing some of the country’s most iconic and awe-inspiring natural wonders. Highlights include the dramatic Gullfoss waterfall, the bubbling geothermal area of Geysir, and the remarkable Thingvellir National Park.

Our journey begins at Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site deeply rooted in Icelandic history. This is where the Althingi – one of the world’s oldest parliaments – was established in 930 AD, and where, in the year 1000, Iceland officially adopted Christianity. Beyond its cultural importance, Thingvellir is also geologically extraordinary. Here, the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates continue to drift apart, creating dramatic fissures and rifts in the earth’s crust, which are clearly visible as we walk through the park’s striking landscape. Next, we continue to the world-famous Geysir geothermal area. This fascinating region is alive with steaming vents and bubbling hot springs, including the ever-reliable Strokkur – a geyser that erupts every 5 to 10 minutes, shooting a powerful column of hot water high into the air.

From here, it’s a short drive to the breathtaking Gullfoss waterfall, where glacial waters plunge dramatically into a rugged canyon below—a stunning finale to our Golden Circle journey. We then follow the scenic route back through South Iceland’s fertile countryside and farmlands, arriving in Reykjavík by late afternoon.

Later in the evening, we venture beyond the city lights in search of one of nature’s most spectacular displays: the Northern Lights. With minimal light pollution, the night sky offers the perfect canvas for witnessing the enchanting green glow of the Aurora Borealis. When conditions are favourable, this dazzling natural phenomenon can often be seen dancing across the skies during the winter months.

Please note that sightings of the Northern Lights cannot be guaranteed, as they are entirely dependent on weather and solar activity. For this reason, the timing of the excursion may be adjusted closer to the day to improve the chance of seeing them.

Day Three: Day at leisure

Day Three: Day at leisure

Today is dedicated to discovering the highlights of Iceland’s charming capital, Reykjavík. As we explore the city on foot, we’ll visit some of its most iconic landmarks, including the striking Hallgrímskirkja church, whose unique design dominates the skyline. Wandering through the historical city centre, we’ll come across notable sites such as the elegant Town Hall, the Parliament building, and the striking Harpa Concert Hall – a modern architectural masterpiece perched on the waterfront. Along the way, there’s ample opportunity to enjoy Reykjavík’s vibrant cultural scene, with its array of museums, cosy cafés, excellent restaurants, and boutique shops waiting to be explored.

Day Four: The Blue Lagoon & Perlan

Day Four: The Blue Lagoon & Perlan

After breakfast, we transfer to the iconic Blue Lagoon – a world-renowned geothermal spa set in the dramatic, moon-like landscape of one of West Iceland’s youngest lava fields. Here, you'll have time to unwind in the warm, mineral-rich milky-blue waters, indulge in an outdoor massage or spa treatment, or simply take in the surreal beauty of the surroundings. Your visit includes a two-hour stay, a Silica Mud Mask from the Mask Bar, use of a towel, and one drink of your choice – the perfect way to relax and reflect on your Icelandic adventure.

Upon returning to Reykjavík, we visit Perlan – a striking glass-domed landmark built atop hot water tanks, offering one of the city’s best panoramic views from its observation deck.

A highlight of our visit is the Perlan Aurora Show, an immersive planetarium experience housed within one of the tanks. This groundbreaking production is the first of its kind, showcasing the magic of the Northern Lights in stunning 8K resolution. Through state-of-the-art visuals and storytelling, the show offers a captivating glimpse into the science and beauty behind this natural phenomenon.

Trip Reviews

Did not disapppoint

Iceland has been on my bucket list for a long time and it did not disappoint. Even exceeding expectations. Lied back on the snow, watching a full Northern Lights show above was something i'll never forget. The Blue Lagoon and being drenched by the Hermit waterfall were also incredible experiences. Massive thank you to Monica who helped make it such an enjoyable trip. We didn't need to worry about anything as it was always just sorted. Take me back!

From the 12th October 2025 the EU is introducing a new European Entry System (EES) that will be phased in and fully operational by the 10th April 2026. Non-EU nationals including British passport holders will now be required to complete biometric checks on arrival and exit to Schengen countries, which will include facial recognition and fingerprints. There is no cost for this, and no action needs to be taken prior to departure.
