Kefalonia

Skala

Skala

Skala, on the south east coast of of the island, is one of the more popular summer resorts in Kefalonia. It boasts a wide variety of shops, bars and restaurants, all whilst retaining it's traditional Greek charm. The resort is also home to a 3km sandy beach where you can unwind with a sea breeze or perhaps try your hand at one of the water sports on offer. Skala offers a fascinating glimpse into the past with the nearby ruins of the temple of Apollo, which dates back to 6th century BC and where several impressive Doric columns are still standing.
Porto Skala Hotel

Porto Skala Hotel

For a change of scenery, head down the steps to the small beach just in front of the hotel. Kefalonia & Neighbouring Ithaka

Kefalonia & Neighbouring Ithaka

The beautiful Ionian island of Kefalonia is still relatively unknown to visitors. There is no mass tourism here and it's authentically Greek. A stunning place to explore, offering a diverse landscape of towering mountains, secluded coves, Blue Flag beaches, cypress forests, sprawling vineyards and colourful fishing ports. It's no wonder why the island was used as the setting for the acclaimed film Captain Corelli's Mandolin.

Neighbouring Ithaca is also well worth a day trip, an unspoiled hiking paradise with rugged vegetation and only shy mountain goats interrupt the silence. The island is famous as the setting of ‘The Odyssey ‘ by Homer. Every traveller should visit Ithaca once and follow in the footsteps of this epic story!

Some of the excursions on offer (details in FAQ's below);
  • Ancient Ithaca
  • Kefalonia Kitchen
  • Tour of Kefalonia by land and sea

Great Week in Kefalonia

Very enjoyable week in Kefalonia. Great group of 14 people who all became firm friends as the week progressed. Lots of laughter. We were so lucky to have Mark Atherton as our group lead. He went over and above what was expected to make sure everything went smoothly

Thoroughly recommend

My first time with Solos and I would thoroughly recommend them. The hotel in Kefalonia was basic, but clean and comfortable and the food very good. We were a group of 14 and very lucky to have had Mark as group leader who always went above and beyond to make sure we had the best holiday possible

Dress Code
Casual, cotton, lightweight daytime wear is the order of the day. Comfortable shoes are a must for sightseeing. Smart casual clothes will be ideal for the evening, with the emphasis throughout being informal but with no shorts or vests in the restaurants in the evenings. Early and late season evenings can be cool so do ensure that you take a cardigan or jacket and even some rainwear – particularly in May and June when you may experience some spring thunderstorms follow

Your Tour Leader will collect this on your behalf and distribute it accordingly, thus relieving you of the burden of who, when and how much to tip. The tipping of housekeeping will be left to your individual discretion (a small amount left in your room on departure should cover this and would be much appreciated). As is customary, ‘the hat’ will be passed around for the driver and guide on all optional excursions. For any meals that are not included in your itinerary, or taxi fares, your Tour Leader can advise of an appropriate percentage add on.
