About this trip...
We’re delighted to be returning to the delightful Porto Skala Hotel close to the resort of Skala on the beautiful South East coast of Kefalonia. Our hotel is perfectly situated with uninterrupted sea views and only a leisurely walk or shuttle ride away from the resort centre which offers a choice of traditional bars, restaurants and music venues, all set back from a long sandy beach. The setting for Captain Corelli's Mandolin is a stunning backdrop for what is set to be a relaxing and culture-filled Greek escape, made all the easier with the support of an accompanying Tour Leader and the camaraderie of a ready-made group of solo travellers.

Kefalonia
Skala
Skala, in the south east of of the island, is one of the more popular summer resorts in Kefalonia. It offers a wide variety of shops, bars and restaurants, all whilst retaining it's traditional Greek charm. There is also a 3km sandy beach where you can unwind with a sea breeze or perhaps try your hand at one of the water sports on offer. Skala also offers a taste of history and you can visit the ruins of the temple of Apollo, which dates back to 6th century BC with its remarkable Doric columns still standing.
Porto Skala Hotel
The Porto Skala Hotel offers uninterrupted sea views situated in a fantastic spot outside the resort of Skala. This traditionally Greek hotel offers a delightful pool area with plenty of space to pick a quiet spot to relax whilst making the most of the views. And if it's a drink or snack you fancy, then head to the pool bar. If you prefer a change from the pool, head down the steps in front of the hotel to the small beach, or you can take a leisurely stroll or shuttle in to Skala where you can spend a lazy day enjoying the Ionian sea along the 3km of sandy beach.
Kefalonia & Neighbouring Ithaka
The gorgeous Ionian island of Kefalonia is still relatively unknown to visitors. There is no mass tourism here and it's authentically Greek. A stunning place to explore, you can enjoy a mix of high mountains, secluded coves, blue flag beaches, forests of cypress trees, endless vineyards and colourful fishing ports. It's no wonder why the island was used as the setting for the famous film Captain Corelli's Mandolin. Neighbouring Ithaca is worth a day trip as it is an unspoiled hiking paradise with rugged vegetation and only shy mountain goats interrupt the silence. The island is famous as the setting of ‘The Odyssey ‘ by Homer. Every traveller should visit Ithaca once and follow in the footsteps of this epic story!

Porto Skala Hotel 3*+
Porto Skala Hotel is a spacious complex set in attractive gardens and quiet surroundings. It is perfectly placed in an amphitheater shape and enjoys marvelous views to the Ionian Sea. The architecture is that of a traditional Greek village along with the attentive staff create a friendly and relaxing atmosphere.

Facilities include an outdoor pool with plenty of sun loungers, pool bar serving drinks and snacks, lobby bar and restaurant. There is an air conditioned gym, pool table and small shop.

You may wish to take an optional excursion during the course of your stay. Full details will be given at the Information Meeting. The prices quoted, are a guideline only, as these can vary, depending on numbers and may not be exclusively for Solos guests. The exact amount will be given at your Information Meeting. Your Tour Leader will help arrange these for you but may not necessarily accompany you. You can also indicate to us prior to your holiday which trips you would be interested in so we can pass your request over to resort.

Dress Code
Casual, cotton, lightweight daytime wear is the order of the day. Comfortable shoes are a must for sightseeing. Smart casual clothes will be ideal for the evening, with the emphasis throughout being informal but with no shorts or vests in the restaurants in the evenings. Early and late season evenings can be cool so do ensure that you take a cardigan or jacket and even some rainwear – particularly in May and June when you may experience some spring thunderstorms follow
Gratuities
We suggest a Group Collection to cover transfer drivers, and hotel staff of €20.00 per person. Your Tour Leader will collect this on your behalf and distribute it accordingly, thus relieving you of the burden of who, when and how much to tip. The tipping of housekeeping will be left to your individual discretion (a small amount left in your room on departure should cover this and would be much appreciated). As is customary, ‘the hat’ will be passed around for the driver and guide on all optional excursions. For any meals that are not included in your itinerary, or taxi fares, your Tour Leader can advise of an appropriate percentage add on.
Important Information
Please note there are some steps within the hotel. The beach in front of the hotel is also accessed by a number of steps which may not be suitable for people with mobility issues.
The hotel is a 30-40 minute stroll in to the resort center or the hotel runs a shuttle bus which costs €1.50 each way until 21.30. Taxis are also available at approx. €6.00 each way.
