Les Deux Alpes

Les Deux Alpes Ski Location

Les Deux Alpes Ski Location

Covering multiple peaks and home to one of Europe’s highest skiable glaciers at 3,600m, Les Deux Alpes boasts snow-sure slopes set within a spectacular valley, offering breathtaking views—especially while skiing the glacier.

Beginners are well supported with an excellent ski school and a series of short lifts serving the nursery slopes. The glacier also features a range of gentle runs, ideal for building confidence.

Intermediates can explore vast terrain leading up to the Mont de Lans glacier, where a remarkable underground funicular railway whisks you up to 3,450m. From there, enjoy skiing the glacier and descending back down the mountain. For an added challenge, try your skills on the parallel slalom course.

Advanced skiers will find plenty to get excited about, with steep red and black runs, plus off-piste opportunities for those seeking adventure. And for even more variety, your ski pass includes access to the legendary black runs at nearby Alpe d’Huez, just a short bus ride away.

On the slopes

On the slopes

Les Deux Alpes forms part of the expansive Grande Galaxie ski area, offering access to 220km of downhill skiing across 87 individual pistes, all served by 39 lifts. The ski area stretches from the tree-lined slopes near the resort to the high-altitude snowfields of the glacier, delivering a diverse range of runs for every level—from first-timers to seasoned pros. Along the way, a variety of high-altitude restaurants provide the perfect spots to pause, soak up the views, and refuel for more time on the mountain.

We strongly recommend you inspect your ski hire equipment at the start of your holiday and agree the state of their condition with the ski hire suppliers, as clients are responsible for the care of their hired equipment and should this equipment be damaged the ski hire suppliers are within their rights to ask for a compensation payment.

Dress Code
On a skiing holiday, dress is generally very informal, the emphasis being on comfort and warmth. We recommend that you pack a pair of skiing trousers and warm ski jacket or a waterproof shell and separate fleece lining or an all-in-one ski suit. Thermal or silk underwear is recommended. Cotton/cotton mix roll necks, T-shirts or sweat shirts; several thin layers are better than one thick layer.

Ski socks, ski gloves or mitts and a hat or headband are suggested. Where temperatures are expected to be well below zero, take a facemask or balaclava. Moon boots or waterproof walking shoes are a must. Suntan cream (high protective factor), lip salve, sunglasses and/or goggles are all very useful items to pack. Casual clothes are ideal for the evenings; it is unusual on skiing holidays to dress formally in the evenings.
Gratuities
We suggest a Group Collection to cover transfer drivers, and hotel staff of CHF30.00 per person or the equivalent in local currency. Your Tour Leader will collect this on your behalf and distribute it accordingly, thus relieving you of the burden of who, when and how much to tip. The tipping of housekeeping will be left to your individual discretion (a small amount left in your room on departure should cover this and would be much appreciated).

As is customary, ‘the hat’ will be passed around for the driver and guide on all optional excursions. For any meals that are not included in your itinerary, or taxi fares, your Tour Leader can advise of an appropriate percentage add on. If you choose to have ski lessons, you may also like to thank your ski instructor at the end of the week with a token of appreciation.
Passports and visas

Passport and visas To enter France your passport must meet 2 requirements. It must be:

  • less than 10 years old on the day you enter (check the ‘date of issue’)
  • valid for at least 3 months after the day you plan to leave (check the ‘expiry date’)

Check both the issue date and the expiry date in your passport. If you renewed your passport early, extra months may have been added to its expiry date. This could affect the requirement for your passport to be less than 10 years old.
A visa is not required by holders of passports endorsed “British Citizen” for stays of upto 90 days in any 180-day period. Please note that stays in other EU countries counts towards this 90 day period.

It is your responsibility to ensure that you have the correct visa, a valid passport and any other travel documents for your holiday. All information provided relates to British citizens who hold or are entitled to apply for a British passport. For the most up-to-date visa information please visit ; France Foreign Advice

If you are not a British citizen and do not hold a British passport, you must make your own enquiries as to the applicable requirements.

Health Requirements
Compulsory vaccinations: None.

All clients are responsible for acquainting themselves with up to date health information of the countries being visited and where necessary take the required precautions. We recommend that you check with your doctor prior to departure as this information can change.   You can also visit the travel health website for more information; TravelHealthPro’s France guide
