Day Three: Biogradska Gora National Park
Today, we visit Biogradska Gora National Park, where we'll take an easy walk through it ancient, primeval forest and around Biogradsko Lake – the park's shimmering centrepiece. Considered one of Europe's last remaining rainforests, this protected area lies just a few kilometres away from Kolašin. Local legend says that not a single tree was ever cut here while the region's rulers safeguarded the forest. Today, the park preserves dozens of unique plant and hundreds of animal species, found nowhere else in Europe. Biogradsko Lake itself spans 230.000 m2 and sits at an altitude of 1,094 meters. Towering mountain ranges rise above it, their slopes reflected for millennia in the lake’s tranquil surface.
Our next stop is the famous Tara Bridge. At the time of its completion in 1940, it was the biggest vehicular concrete arch bridge in Europe. The 365-metre-long bridge stands 172 meters above the gorge of the Tara River — its canyon is one of the deepest in Europe. The dramatic surroundings of steep canyon walls, turquoise river water, and mountain scenery is awe-inspiring. We continue to Žabljak, in the heart of the mountains of Durmitor National Park and check in to our hotel for tonight. Dinner will be taken at a local restaurant.
