Packing Smart for Winter Adventures

When it comes to winter travel, there’s an art to packing smart – especially when you’re travelling solo. Whether you’re heading off to the Austrian Alps, chasing the Northern Lights in Iceland, or joining fellow Solos on a festive city break, it’s all about striking the balance between warmth, comfort and confidence.

Because nothing should weigh you down when you’ve got a world of winter wonders to explore.

Layering: Your best travel companion

Layers are your secret weapon for any winter escape. Start with a good thermal base, add an insulating mid-layer (like fleece or lightweight down), and top it off with a waterproof shell. That way, you can peel off or pile on as the temperature changes – whether you’re sipping Glühwein in Salzburg or strolling through snowy streets in Prague.

Top tip: opt for moisture-wicking fabrics so you stay dry even after a brisk walk to the Christmas markets.

Choose versatile pieces that mix and match

When packing for winter, think function meets flexibility. A cosy jumper that doubles up for dinner, boots sturdy enough for snow yet smart enough for evenings out – versatility means fewer items, lighter luggage and more freedom to move.

We’re all about easy elegance on the go. Add a splash of colour with a scarf or beanie that brightens even the greyest of days (and looks great in group photos with your fellow Solos!).

Keep essentials close and compact

Packing cubes are a solo traveller’s best friend. They keep things organised and easy to find – no rummaging required. Remember to pop your gloves, hat and charger in your carry-on for instant comfort when you land.

And if you’re joining one of our Solos ski adventures, don’t forget to pack good-quality socks and hand warmers – small details that make a big difference on the slopes.

Stay connected and confident

Travelling solo doesn’t mean going it alone. A portable charger, universal adapter and digital copies of your documents give you peace of mind wherever your journey takes you.

Our experienced Solos Tour Leaders are always nearby too – ready to lend a hand, share a story or snap a group photo with the snowy peaks behind you. After all, it’s the people that make the place.

Light luggage, warm heart

The best winter adventures aren’t about how much you bring – they’re about what you take away: new friendships, shared laughter and that feeling of freedom that comes from stepping out on your own yet never feeling alone.
