Lucinda’s visit to Santorini 

Dramatic Santorini, the jewel of the Cyclades, is a go-to destination for travellers visiting this island archipelago. We encourage members of our Solos team to see our hotels for themselves, too, so that they’re well informed when chatting to you! In June, Sales Team member Lucinda visited our charming property there, Villa Maistrali, and gave us her feedback.

First impressions

Located on the southwestern side of the island, the Villa Maistrali is a warm and welcoming base for exploring the beautiful island of Santorini. This side of the island is known for its beaches – and its gorgeous sunrises. We were just five minutes’ walk from Perissa beach, which has black volcanic sand and crystal-clear water, and there are plenty of bars, tavernas, shops and ATMs on the doorstep.

 

Tell us about Santorini

Everyone talks about the sunsets in Santorini (and with good reason) but no one ever talks about the beautiful sunrises on the other side of the island, where the Solos hotel is based. Perissa Beach is perfect for it! I got up early to watch it rise above the sea. It was very peaceful, and that memory will stay with me.

 

 

Out and about

Tiny Oia and the main town of Fira are the places to go for shopping, cliff-top views, and sunsets over the turquoise sea. I loved wandering the pretty whitewashed streets of Fira and finding new places to buy ice cream! Both Oia and Fira are easy enough to get to using the regular bus service, and our tour leader Debs also took us there, on an excursion.

I got into a routine of lazing by the hotel pool and maybe popping out to a beach taverna for a Greek salad or some fish for lunch and on a couple of days I caught the bus into Fira around 5pm and spent the evening there with other Solos guests.

 

Final thoughts?

I can’t wait to return. I was nervous before leaving but would have no qualms about doing a Solos trip myself now (this isn’t a sales pitch, I promise!). It was good to see how it works first hand. Newbies young and old will be absolutely fine! You're in safe hands, you’ll have fun and you’ll meet lots of like-minded people. Get out there and live your best life, create memories, and meet new people.
