When Alistair booked his first Solos holiday back in 2013, he had no idea it would be the start of something extraordinary. What began as one ski trip in Slovenia has since turned into 25 incredible adventures — a milestone that perfectly captures the spirit of the Solos community.
“In 2013, I went skiing in Slovenia. I’m single myself so wanted to go skiing with other solo people.”
Active escapes and shared adventures
Alistair quickly discovered that Solos holidays were exactly his style — active, social, and full of energy.
“I did the Algarve and the Croatia cycling trips which were really good. I tend to go for the active trips. It’s great because most are relatively fit and enjoy getting out and about.”
Whether cycling along the Adriatic coast or walking through the English countryside, Alistair thrives on adventure and the company of like-minded travellers.
“I’ve had a couple of New Year’s Eve trips too. It's my birthday on 31 December so it’s always nice to get away then. Also did some of the walking trips in the UK – the Cotswolds and Somerset.”
Always exploring something new
While some travellers love returning to familiar favourites, Alistair prefers to keep exploring.
“I prefer to see different places and rarely go back to the same place.”
Each trip brings a new destination, a new group of friends, and another unforgettable experience — always with that unmistakable Solos spirit.
A favourite memory
Out of 25 trips, one stands out above the rest — a moment that captures everything Solos is about: discovery, connection, and shared joy.
“Probably on my most recent trip - ‘Cycling in Croatia’ – cycling every day in great weather. The Tour Leader found a bar in the hillside – provided all the drinks watching the sunset. He arranged everything. Croatia is great – I did a walking holiday there too.”
A perfect sunset, good company, and effortless organisation — the kind of memory that lingers long after the trip ends.
Finding friendship in every journey
For Alistair, Solos isn’t just about seeing the world. It’s about the people who make each trip unforgettable.
“After the first day, you feel like you’ve known each other a lifetime. That apprehension goes so quickly. Not everyone is single, some have partners back home—but you’re all in the same boat. It can be quite emotional at the end of the trip at the airport to be honest. Tough to say goodbye in many ways.”
And those connections last well beyond the holiday itself.
“I meet up with people I’ve travelled with Solos a few times a year. It’s strange. You have to live it to experience it.”
25 trips later…
After 12 years and 25 adventures, Alistair’s passion for travel hasn’t slowed down. Each journey brings a new story, new friendships, and another reminder of why he first chose to travel with Solos.
“A worthwhile experience.”
