Here’s a few (unorthodox yet effective) tips for keeping cool this weekend…
1. Put a couple of half full hot water bottles in the freezer during the day. Come nightfall and slide one into the top side of your pillowcase and one under your bed sheets. And there you have it - the cold side of the pillow all night long.
2. It’s safe to say the duvet can do one this weekend. Lightweight sheets are the way forward. Lightly mist or spray your top sheet with water and pop them in the freezer a couple of hours before you hit the hay.
3. To gradually bring your body temperature down before you sleep, Spanish locals swear by taking a dip in the pool or ocean at dusk. Failing that, take a relatively cool bath or fill a washing up bowl with cool water for a foot spa with a twist.
4. Close blinds, windows and curtains during the hottest time of the day. Open them to allow air-flow after the sun has set.
5. Turning on an electric fan in 35 degree heat is about as much use as a chocolate teapot. They are however a godsend after the temperature has dropped at nightfall.
