Exclusive Property- The Catamaran Hotel

Overlooking the peaceful Falmouth Harbour near historic Nelson’s Dockyard, this family-run gem of a property has become a firm favorite with Solos guests. The Catamaran Hotel was opened by the renowned Antiguan Yachtsman Sir Hugh Bailey and has since been passed down to his daughter Feona and her son Colin, who offer a warm and friendly welcome. If an intimate and traditional beachfront hotel is your idea of paradise, this is the perfect choice for those looking to escape the hectic pace of life. For 10 nights, the hotel is exclusive to Solos guests and embodies the same personal feel that can be found at all our Solos Exclusives properties. Feona, Colin and the rest of the team provide a wonderful and memorable experience and are always on hand for your vacation requests.
The Catamaran Hotel offers 18 tropical-inspired rooms across seven categories, ranging from comfortable standard rooms with courtyard seating to beachfront rooms with shared terraces. Guests can also choose from charming Captain's Cabins with pool and beach access, individual Cottage Suites with varying sea views, and the spacious Admiral's Suite boasting panoramic views of Falmouth Bay and the beach from its balcony, with prices reflecting the size, amenities, and views of each unique accommodation.

This stunning island has much to offer. The lively Pigeon Point Beach is a short drive away from the hotel, as is Shirley Heights, an 18th Century fort with incredible views. You can experience the Antiguan favourite - a Sunday night sunset party here, or enjoy a communal barbecue where locals, the yachting set and visitors alike let their hair down. No visit to a Caribbean island would be complete without a catamaran cruise. On our circumnavigation tour, you’ll enjoy a full day's adventure cruise around Antigua’s dazzling coast with the chance to snorkel and swim in the turquoise waters.

The private swimming pool boasts stunning ocean views! So grab a sun lounger, order a drink from the hotel bar and relax and unwind, with the pool just a few steps to the small beach. None of the beaches in Antigua are private however, it is rare for anyone other than hotel guests to use this stretch of sand. Feeling active? There are no organized beach activities but there's the option to head out on a 5 hour catamaran tour, go diving, or the hire of sunfish dinghies and rowing boats can be arranged via the hotel reception. In the evenings, we'll dine together at the hotel’s Captain’s Quarter’s Restaurant & Bar, where we have our own private area set aside away from other diners of which offers waterfront alfresco dining. With an unrivalled view of the Marina and Falmouth Bay, the setting will take your breath away – whether at breakfast or during our 10 included dinners.

Essential Information

Transfer Time
Transfer time from Antigua Airport to The Catamaran Hotel is approximately 25-30 minutes.
Passport and visas
We recommend that you check passport and visa requirements for the country you are visiting at the State Department if you have a U.S. Passport. Most countries require that your passport have at least six months validity when traveling internationally, and many require that you have one to two blank visa pages for either an entry stamp or visa. As a general rule, please check that your passport has six months validity beyond your planned trip, and if not, please renew your passport with plenty of time to provide Solos with your updated passport information by the final payment due date.

Not sure what travel documents you need? Our trusted partner, sherpa°, makes it easy to check visa and entry requirements based on your destination and passport. One quick check now means smooth sailing later. Click here to learn more.

Health requirements
We recommend that you check if vaccinations are required for your destination at the CDC’s recommendations for your visited destination(s). We also recommend you purchase travel protection. A travel protection plan can often assist with medical emergencies and reimburse costs that are covered by the plan. Please verify coverage details with Solos before you travel.
Currency
Eastern Caribbean Dollar or US Dollars
Important Information
Local tourist tax of $5.00 per person per night payable locally Please note the Captains Quarters Restaurant and Bar is open to non residents. Solos guests will have a private section of the restaurant during meal times.
Optional Excursions
You may wish to take an optional excursion during the course of your stay. Full details will be given at the Information Meeting. All tours should be paid for in USD or ECD. Credit cards are accepted. The exact amount will be given at your Information Meeting. Your Tour Leader will help arrange these for you but may not necessarily accompany you.
  • Wadadli Cats (5 Hour Catamaran Tour including lunch) approx USD $110 per person plus transfer approx USD $20
  • Shirley Heights Sunset Party approx USD $16 per person
  • Stingray City USD $60 plus transfer approx USD $20
Gratuities
There is often confusion on the question of gratuities, since it frequently depends on the type of tour, location and, of course, your attitude towards tipping, as to what is normally expected. In order to give you a rough idea, we have given appropriate guidance below. Your Tour Leader will be on hand to offer advice or suggestions if required but gratuities are offered entirely at the sole discretion of the individual. We suggest a group collection to cover drivers, porters and hotel staff of $35.00, (or the equivalent amount in local currency).

Your Tour Leader will collect this on your behalf and distribute it accordingly, thus relieving you of the burden of who, when and how much to tip. The tipping of housekeeping will be left to your individual discretion (a small amount left in your room on departure should cover this and would be much appreciated). As is customary, ‘the hat’ will be passed around for the driver and guide on all optional excursions. For any meals that are not included in your itinerary, or taxi fares, your Tour Leader can advise of an appropriate add-on.
Dress Code
Casual, cotton, lightweight daytime wear is the order of the day. Comfortable shoes are a must for sightseeing. Smart casual clothes will be ideal for the evening, with the emphasis throughout being informal but with no vests in the restaurants in the evenings. Early and late season evenings can be cool so do ensure that you take a cardigan or jacket and even some rainwear – particularly in May and June when you may experience some spring thunderstorms followed by scorching days!
