Today we have a tour of Budapest, the city is divided by the Danube River into two parts: Buda, known for its hilly landscape, historic castles, and natural beauty, and Pest. We will start the day touring around the city, seeing sights such as Buda Castle and Castle Hill. Buda Castle is perched on a hill overlooking the Danube and is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The castle complex includes museums, historical buildings, and offers breathtaking views of the city. One of the most iconic landmarks of Budapest is the Parliament Building, this neo-Gothic building sits on the Pest side of the Danube and is the third-largest parliament building in the world. Other places of interest in this fascinating city is Chain Bridge connecting Buda and Pest, St. Stephen’s Basilica, Fisherman’s Bastion and Danube Promenade, a beautiful riverside walkway, where along the way we can see iconic views of the city.

This afternoon we sail down the River Danube taking in all the sights accompanied by a glass of sparkling wine.

Day Three: Esztergom, Visegrad & Szentendre

We head out of Budapest this morning and head to the villages on the famous Danube River. Our first stop is Esztergom, which is one of the oldest and most important cities in Hungary. Known for its rich history, religious significance, and stunning architecture, the Esztergom Basilica dominates the skyline of Esztergom, sitting atop Castle Hill. Whilst here we enjoy a wine tasting. Our next stop is Visegrad, a small historically significant town located on the scenic Danube Bend and is a blend of natural beauty, medieval history, and cultural significance. Visegrad is famous for its medieval fortress, royal palace, and stunning panoramic views of the Danube River.

Our final stop today is Szentendre, a charming riverside town, known for its vibrant arts scene, colorful baroque architecture, and Mediterranean-like atmosphere. The town is famous for its narrow cobblestone streets, galleries, museums, and lively cultural life. We end the tour with a short presentation on how to make a traditional Chimney cake, and of course we have included a tasting of this delicious treat. Afterwards, we return to the hotel where you have some free time to enjoy Budapest.

Essential Information

Transfer time
Transfer time from the airport to the hotel is approximately 45 minutes.
General Information
At the beginning of your trip, your Tour Leader will ask if you would be happy to sign a photo permission form. This means that any photographs taken during your holiday can be used by Solos to share what the Solos experience is all about. It also means you have lots of memories to go home with! Details will be given at your welcome meeting.

WhatsApp Group: Just before the start of your trip, you will be sent an invite to the WhatsApp group which will put you in touch with your fellow Solos travellers and Tour Leader prior to your departure day. By choosing to join, you're consenting to share your contact details with other members of your group. However, if you prefer not to join, that's completely fine, and you can meet the group on your first day instead. Please note, if you have not received an email within 24 hours of departure, we recommend you check your email junk folder.
Dress code
The dress code for during the day is casual. In the evenings the dress code is smart casual. Comfortable warm shoes for walking and sightseeing are recommended.
Gratuities
There is often confusion on the question of gratuities, since it frequently depends on the type of holiday, location and, of course, your attitude towards tipping, as to what is normally expected. To give you a rough idea, we have given appropriate guidance below. The Tour Leader will be on hand to offer advice or suggestions if required but gratuities are offered entirely at the sole discretion of the individual. We suggest a group collection at the beginning of your holiday to cover drivers, guides, porters and hotel staff. Your Tour Leader will collect this on your behalf and distribute it accordingly, thus relieving you of the burden of who, when and how much to tip.
Passport, Visa & Entry Requirements

We recommend that you check passport and visa requirements for the country you are visiting at the State Department if you have a U.S. Passport. Most countries require that your passport have at least six months validity when traveling internationally, and many require that you have one to two blank visa pages for either an entry stamp or visa. As a general rule, please check that your passport has six months validity beyond your planned trip, and if not, please renew your passport with plenty of time to provide Solos with your updated passport information by the final payment due date.

Not sure what travel documents you need? Our trusted partner, sherpa°, makes it easy to check visa and entry requirements based on your destination and passport. One quick check now means smooth sailing later. Click here to learn more.

Health Requirements

We recommend that you check if vaccinations are required for your destination at the CDC’s recommendations for your visited destination(s). We also recommend you purchase travel protection. A travel protection plan can often assist with medical emergencies and reimburse costs that are covered by the plan. Please verify coverage details with Solos before you travel.

Currency
The Hungarian Florint is the official currency.
Important information
You will need a reasonable level of fitness due to walking tours. Due to the nature of the old towns, there will be cobbled streets and uneven ground.
Flights & Airport Transfers
Whether you'd like us to arrange your flights or prefer to book your own, we're here to make the process easy. Our team can secure flights from the location that suits you best, or provide all the arrival and departure details you'll need if booking independently.

Arrival & departure airport transfers are included for all trips EXCEPT our UK Breaks, regardless if you book your own flights or if we book them for you. To learn more about flight options, payments, and transfers, click here.
