Day Two: Gdansk City Tour & Westerplatte Cruise

Day Two: Gdansk City Tour & Westerplatte Cruise

After breakfast, we meet our guide for our walking city tour of Gdańsk. Our exploration begins along Dluga (Long Street), one of the most famous and beautiful streets in the city. Together with Długi Targ (Long Market), it forms the city’s ceremonial thoroughfare, once used for royal processions and major public events. After near-total destruction during WWII, it was meticulously rebuilt, restoring its pre-war grandeur.
Starting at the Złota Brama (Golden Gate), a grand archway marking the street's western entrance, we pass by a vibrant array of pastel-hued Renaissance façades. Along the way, we encounter some of Gdańsk’s most notable landmarks – the towering clock of the Town Hall, the beloved Neptune’s Fountain, and the elegant Artus Court, once a prestigious gathering place for merchants and nobles. We visit the museum of Amber, which has been produced in Gdańsk for centuries. We continue to Most Zielony (Green Bridge) overlooking the Motlawa River and on to Żuraw (The Crane). One of the most recognised symbols of Gdańsk, it is the biggest middle aged port crane in Europe.

In the afternoon, we set sail to Westerplatte aboard the traditional White Fleet. Westerplatte is a small peninsula at the mouth of the Vistula River in Gdańsk, that in 1939 became the scene of the first battle of WWII. A towering stone memorial overlooking the Baltic Sea now commemorates its defenders. It is also a monument to a history that is still alive and important to Polish national identity. We transfer back to Gdańsk.

Day Three: Malbork Castle Visit

Day Three: Malbork Castle Visit

Today we visit Malbork Castle, the medieval capital of the Teutonic Order in Eastern Europe. Our guided visit of Malbork Castle offers a fascinating journey into medieval history and the power of the Teutonic Knights. As we explore the vast, UNESCO-listed fortress—the largest brick castle in the world, our knowledgeable guide brings the walls to life with stories of knights, sieges, and royal intrigue. We'll wander through grand halls, impressive chapels, and fortified towers, admiring the intricate Gothic architecture and defensive features. Along the way, our guide shares insights into the castle’s strategic importance, its role in medieval warfare, and the daily lives of its inhabitants. The castle’s cellars also host the History of Amber exhibition, presenting an astounding collection of Baltic Sea amber. We return to Gdańsk for our farewell dinner.

Essential Information

Transfer Time
Gdansk Airport to Hotel Sadova is approximately 30 minutes.
Dress Code
The dress code for during the day is casual. In the evening for the welcome dinner it is smart casual. Comfortable shoes for walking and sightseeing are recommended.
Gratuities
There is often confusion on the question of gratuities, since it frequently depends on the type of holiday, location and, of course, your attitude towards tipping, as to what is normally expected. In order to give you a rough idea, we have given appropriate guidance below. Your Tour Leader will be on hand to offer advice or suggestions if required but gratuities are offered entirely at the sole discretion of the individual. We suggest a group collection to cover drivers, porters and hotel staff of 85 Polish zloty.

Your Tour Leader will collect this on your behalf and distribute it accordingly, thus relieving you of the burden of who, when and how much to tip. The tipping of housekeeping will be left to your individual discretion (a small amount left in your room on departure should cover this and would be much appreciated). As is customary, ‘the hat’ will be passed around for the driver and guide on all optional excursions. For any meals that are not included in your itinerary, or taxi fares, your Tour Leader can advise of an appropriate add on.

Passports and visas

We recommend that you check passport and visa requirements for the country you are visiting at the State Department if you have a U.S. Passport. Most countries require that your passport have at least six months validity when traveling internationally, and many require that you have one to two blank visa pages for either an entry stamp or visa. As a general rule, please check that your passport has six months validity beyond your planned trip, and if not, please renew your passport with plenty of time to provide Solos with your updated passport information by the final payment due date.

Not sure what travel documents you need? Our trusted partner, sherpa°, makes it easy to check visa and entry requirements based on your destination and passport. One quick check now means smooth sailing later. Click here to learn more.

Health requirements

We recommend that you check if vaccinations are required for your destination at the CDC’s recommendations for your visited destination(s). We also recommend you purchase travel protection. A travel protection plan can often assist with medical emergencies and reimburse costs that are covered by the plan. Please verify coverage details with Solos before you travel.
