After breakfast, we depart for Jerash, one of the most spectacular Roman provincial cities in the Middle East. We walk along the colonnaded streets, explore the Oval Plaza, visit the Temple of Artemis, and climb the North Theatre for a panoramic view of the ancient city. Jerash offers a unique glimpse into Jordan’s Roman past, with remarkably preserved streets, temples, and amphitheatres.

We enjoy lunch at a local restaurant known for its authentic Jordanian and Levantine cuisine before returning to Amman.

This afternoon, we explore Amman, starting at the Citadel, which sits atop Jabal al-Qal’a, this ancient site contains ruins from the Roman, Byzantine, and Umayyad periods, including the Temple of Hercules and the Umayyad Palace. We continue to the Roman Theatre: An impressive 6,000-seat amphitheatre still in use today and lastly the Archaeological Museum & Folklore Museum which offers insights into Jordan’s history, from ancient artifacts to traditional costumes.

We then continue to Mount Nebo, the biblical site where Moses is believed to have viewed the Promised Land before his death. Enjoy breathtaking views over the Jordan Valley and the Dead Sea.

This afternoon, we make a photo stop at Kerak, renowned for its Crusader castle, before visiting Shobak Castle, a 12th-century fortress built by the Crusaders. Its strategic location and dramatic views make it a photographer’s dream.

We wander through the Street of Facades, the Roman-style Theater, and the Royal Tombs, before hiking to the Monastery (Ad-Deir), an incredible structure carved into sandstone cliffs, offering sweeping views of the surrounding valley.

Our tour guide will share the fascinating history of the Nabateans, Petra’s original inhabitants, who built this city over 2,000 years ago.

We return to our hotel in Petra for dinner.

Essential Information

Passports & Visas

We recommend that you check passport and visa requirements for the country you are visiting at the State Department if you have a U.S. Passport. Most countries require that your passport have at least six months validity when traveling internationally, and many require that you have one to two blank visa pages for either an entry stamp or visa. As a general rule, please check that your passport has six months validity beyond your planned trip, and if not, please renew your passport with plenty of time to provide Solos with your updated passport information by the final payment due date.

Not sure what travel documents you need? Our trusted partner, sherpa°, makes it easy to check visa and entry requirements based on your destination and passport. One quick check now means smooth sailing later. Click here to learn more.

Transfer Times

The below are approximate times and do not include sightseeing and rest stops.

  • Amman airport to the hotel is approximately 40 minutes.
  • Amman to Jerash is approximately 60 minutes.
  • Amman to Madaba is approximately 40 minutes.
  • Madaba to Petra is approximately 3.5 hours plus stops
  • Petra to Wadi Rum is approximately 2 hours
  • Wadi Rum to the Dead Sea is approximately 3.5 hours
  • Dead Sea Hotel to Amman Airport is approximately 90 minutes.

Please note, you will arrive at your hotel in Amman in the early hours of day 2.
Dress Code
Casual, cotton, lightweight daytime wear is the order of the day. Comfortable shoes are a must for sightseeing. Smart casual clothes will be ideal for the evening, with the emphasis throughout being informal but with no shorts or vests in the restaurants in the evenings. Early and late season evenings can be cool so do ensure that you take a cardigan or jacket. Remember to cover up in any religious sites.
Currency
The official currency of Jordan is the Jordanian dinar (JOD), which is divided into 100 piastres or 1,000 fils. The dinar is widely used for all transactions, and prices are typically listed in dinars throughout the country. Cash is commonly accepted, especially in small shops and markets, while credit and debit cards are widely used in hotels, restaurants, and larger stores. ATMs are readily available in major cities, and foreign currencies are generally not accepted for everyday purchases.
Gratuities
There is often confusion on the question of gratuities, since it frequently depends on the type of holiday, location and, of course, your attitude towards tipping, as to what is normally expected. In order to give you a rough idea, we have given appropriate guidance below. Your Tour Leader will be on hand to offer advice or suggestions if required but gratuities are offered entirely at the sole discretion of the individual. We suggest a group collection to cover drivers, porters and hotel staff of £40 per week.

Your Tour Leader will collect this on your behalf and distribute it accordingly, thus relieving you of the burden of who, when and how much to tip. The tipping of housekeeping will be left to your individual discretion (a small amount left in your room on departure should cover this and would be much appreciated). As is customary, ‘the hat’ will be passed around for the driver and guide on all optional excursions. For any meals that are not included in your itinerary, or taxi fares, your Tour Leader can advise of an appropriate add on.
Health Requirements

We recommend that you check if vaccinations are required for your destination at the CDC’s recommendations for your visited destination(s). We also recommend you purchase travel protection. A travel protection plan can often assist with medical emergencies and reimburse costs that are covered by the plan. Please verify coverage details with Solos before you travel.

Travel Insurance

We strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance before any trip — it safeguards you against unexpected issues like illness, cancellations, or lost luggage. It also protects your health and travel investment, giving you peace of mind to fully enjoy your journey. Click here to learn more.

If you are taking part in an excursion which includes hot air ballooning, 4 x 4 off road drives, quad biking, motorcycling or snowmobiling you need to check your travel insurer will offer you adequate cover. You will also need to sign a waiver form.
