What you’ll be doing
Day One: Arrive in Lanzarote
Arrive in César Manrique-Lanzarote Airport. We transfer to our hotel for the week, where we'll have our welcome meeting with our guide & a short walk to familiarize ourselves with our surroundings. (Dependent on flight arrival times).
The northernmost of the Canary Islands, Lanzarote is the most surprising island of the archipelago with some truly breathtaking landscapes. It’s a UNESCO Biosphere reserve with over 40% of it being protected; its amazing volcanic landscapes contain some weird and wonderful plants endemic to the island, and some truly stunning beaches. Add this to a superb climate where the temperature rarely falls below 60 degrees, makes Lanzarote a great choice for winter in the Canarian warmth and sunshine.

Day Two: La Corona Volcano – Famara Cliffs
Our first day's walk begins in the village of Ye, from where the route ascends towards the crater of the La Corona volcano. Along the way, we are rewarded with beautiful views of vineyards and the spectacular lava flows known as malpaís, where vast basaltic blocks spill down toward the emerald coastline and its white-sand beaches. After exploring the impressive crater, the trail continues around the eastern face of La Corona, offering views over the remarkable 4.7-mile lava tunnel below. The final 1 mile of this lava cave lies beneath the sea, formed during the volcano’s eruption in the last Ice Age, when sea levels were around 295 feet lower than today. We then follows the highest section of the Famara Cliffs, delivering breathtaking coastal panoramas.
The cliffs are a true natural wonder, a colossal wall of rock rising over 1,640 feet from the sea and spanning 13.7 miles along Lanzarote's northwest coast. Walking along the central section of the cliff edge, we are rewarded with breathtaking views over the Chinijo Archipelago, a scattering of small islets lying just north of the island. The day also includes a visit to Peñas del Chache, Lanzarote’s highest point, which at 2,198 feet offers sweeping panoramic views across the island and out to the Atlantic.

Day Three: Day At Leisure
Today, we can take time out to perhaps take advantage of the hotel facilities and relax by the pool or head to the beach.

Day Four: Volcano El Cuervo – La Geria
Today’s walk leads us through the dramatic volcanic landscapes shaped by the 1730–36 eruption of El Cuervo. We visit its impressive crater, where the raw power of volcanic activity has carved out a striking and otherworldly terrain. From here, the route continues across fields of black volcanic sand, where Lanzarote’s farmers have ingeniously planted their grapevines. We then climb Guardilama Mountain, the island’s fourth-highest peak at 1,978 feet, which rewards us with truly impressive panoramic views across Lanzarote.
Our route finishes at a traditional La Geria winery, offering the chance to sample the area’s distinctive wines (at additional cost).

Day Five: Caldera Blanca. (Los Volcanes Nature Park)
This route takes us deep into the volcanic landscapes formed by the dramatic eruptions of 1730–36. We walk across vast lava flows to reach the island’s largest crater—an impressive hydromagmatic volcano with a diameter of around 3,9723 feet. Along the way, the island’s arid climate allows us to observe a remarkable variety of volcanic structures laid bare, virtually untouched by vegetation. It is, in effect, an open-air museum of volcanology. From the trail, we also enjoy sweeping views across the entire Timanfaya National Park and the striking new coastline created as multiple lava flows met the sea.

Day Six: Day at leisure
Today we can enjoy taking some time out to take advantage of the hotel facilities and relax by the pool or head to the beach. Alternatively, you may choose to take a leisurely stroll around the resort of Costa Teguise.

Day Seven: La Graciosa
For our last day, we head to Orzola, the northern most point of Lanzarote, to take the boat to the island of La Graciosa. La Graciosa is a Nature Park and Marine Reserve of great natural interest. Our 9km hike will allow us to discover its coastline and volcanoes. There will also be the opportunity to snorkel in the aquamarine waters (snorkelling equipment supplied) to see the amazing marine life and enjoy relaxing on the beach. We return by boat in the afternoon.

Walking FAQs
Four guided walks are included in the tour. Your walking guide will advise you in resort of the daily schedule. The walking program is graded as Moderate and you can expect to walk between 5-6 miles per day, with some ascents/descents, rough underfoot terrain and high altitudes involved. Below are the distances for each walk, however please bear in mind these are approximate and subject to change due to local conditions.
It is your responsibility to ensure that you are fit and well enough to take part in your chosen tour. If you are unsure as to whether the walks are within your capabilities, please contact the office to discuss this matter, thus making sure you appreciate the terrain that you will be walking. You could be walking across uneven ground in some areas and extreme care must be taken, especially if wet. If used to using a pole/stick, it is advisable to bring it. Please appreciate the route and content of the holiday may change at the time and at the discretion of the guide/organiser, should conditions require.

What to Wear
It is of paramount importance that you have the correct footwear. It is essential to wear walking boots that are comfortable and preferably lightweight, with some ankle support and a good grip. If you already have a pair of boots that you are happy walking in (including during hot/wet weather and on hard ground), then bring these along. However, if you are bringing new footwear, do make sure they are well broken in before you arrive. Experience has shown that wearing 2 pairs of woollen socks adds to comfort. The weather, even in summer, can be unpredictable. We would therefore recommend you travel with clothing suitable for all conditions, and suggest you use the following checklist as a guideline of what to take:
- Walking boots with good ankle support
- Waterproofs – jacket and trousers
- Walking poles – recommended as they provide good support for the knees, particularly on downhill sections of walks and when conditions are wet/slippery
- Lightweight trousers and shorts with pockets
- Shirts or t-shirts for walking in
- Walking socks – several pairs
- Lightweight fleece or jumper
- Hat & gloves
- Daysack/rucksack for walking
- Umbrella – it can be used also for protection from the sun as well as rain
- Lightweight drinking bottle to carry water whilst walking
- Small first aid kit – plasters, insect repellant, etc
- Good, high factor sunscreen, sunhat and sunglasses.
Gratuities
We suggest a Group Collection to cover transfer drivers, and hotel staff of €25 per person. Your Tour Leader will collect this on your behalf and distribute it accordingly, thus relieving you of the burden of who, when and how much to tip. The tipping of housekeeping will be left to your individual discretion (a small amount left in your room on departure should cover this and would be much appreciated). As is customary, ‘the hat’ will be passed around for the driver and guide on all optional excursions. For any meals that are not included in your itinerary, or taxi fares, your Tour Leader can advise of an appropriate % to add on.
Passport & Visa Entry
We recommend that you check passport and visa requirements for the country you are visiting at the State Department if you have a U.S. Passport. Most countries require that your passport have at least six months validity when traveling internationally, and many require that you have one to two blank visa pages for either an entry stamp or visa. As a general rule, please check that your passport has six months validity beyond your planned trip, and if not, please renew your passport with plenty of time to provide Solos with your updated passport information by the final payment due date.
