What you’ll be doing

Day One: Arrive in Ljubljana

Day One: Arrive in Ljubljana

Upon arrival at Ljubljana Airport, we transfer to our centrally located hotel in the charming capital city of Ljubljana. We have some time to relax after our journey, gathering together this evening with our fellow solo travelers for a welcome drink and information meeting.
Day Two: Ljubljana Castle & Guided Culinary City Tour

Day Two: Ljubljana Castle & Guided Culinary City Tour

We begin our adventure with one of the best introductions to the country — a relaxed 3.5-hour stroll through the cobbled streets of the old town. During the food tour, you’ll sample traditional dishes from Slovenia’s diverse regions and enjoy four local wines, each with its own story. Along the way, we’ll uncover the history and spirit of the Slovenian people and learn about the city’s architecture, culture and traditions.

This afternoon, we ascend to Ljubljana Castle, the proud symbol of the city for more than nine centuries. From its hilltop perch, we’ll take in panoramic views before stepping inside for the Time Machine experience — a fun and interactive journey through the castle’s dramatic past. From medieval battles to royal celebrations, we’ll reveal the stories hidden within these ancient walls.

Day Three: Lake Bled, Church of the Assumption & Vintgar Gorge

Day Three: Lake Bled, Church of the Assumption & Vintgar Gorge

Today we travel to the jewel of Slovenia, Lake Bled, where alpine beauty meets timeless charm.

We begin at Bled Castle, a 12th-century stronghold perched high above the lake, offering panoramic views of its turquoise waters and island below. Inside, we explore the castle museum, traditional printing workshop and wine cellar. Next, we sample the famous Bled Cream Cake (Kremšnita) — a light custard-and-cream dessert loved throughout Slovenia.

Then we take to the water aboard a traditional Pletna boat, rowed by skilled oarsmen — a craft passed down through generations since 1590. At the heart of the lake lies Bled Island, where we climb 99 stone steps to the Church of the Assumption; legend has it that ringing its bell brings good luck.

To round off the day, we wander through the breathtaking Vintgar Gorge, following wooden walkways suspended above rushing emerald water — a striking showcase of Slovenia’s natural beauty.

Day Four: Postojna Cave & Predjama Castle

Day Four: Postojna Cave & Predjama Castle

We journey underground today into Postojna Cave, one of the most remarkable cave systems in the world. Stretching for 14 miles, this karst masterpiece has been fascinating visitors since 1819. We board the electric cave train, gliding through vast chambers adorned with shimmering stalactites and otherworldly rock formations. Along the way, we encounter the cave’s most famous resident — the mysterious olm, or “human fish” — a rare, pale amphibian found only in these depths.

A short drive away stands the spectacular Predjama Castle, built halfway up a 400-foot-high cliff. This dramatic fortress has guarded the valley for more than eight centuries and is recognised by Guinness World Records as the largest cave castle in the world. Inside, we uncover secret passageways and hear legendary tales of Erasmus of Predjama, Slovenia’s own Robin Hood — a story of rebellion, cunning and courage.

Essential Information

Transfer Time
The transfer time from Ljubljana International Airport to your hotel in Ljubljana is approximately 45 minutes, depending on the traffic.
Gratuities
We suggest a Group Collection to cover guides, transfer drivers, and hotel staff of minimum €15.00 per person. Your Tour Leader will collect this on your behalf and distribute it accordingly, thus relieving you of the burden of who, when and how much to tip. The tipping of housekeeping will be left to your individual discretion (a small amount left in your room on departure should cover this and would be much appreciated). As is customary, ‘the hat’ will be passed around for the driver and guide on all optional excursions. For any meals that are not included in your itinerary, or taxi fares, your Tour Leader can advise of an appropriate % to add on.
General information
This itinerary involves a significant amount of walking, some of it on uneven ground. A reasonable amount of mobility is required to enjoy the itinerary.

Dress Code
The dress code during the day is casual. Dressing in layers with warm, casual evening wear is recommended. Comfortable footwear is a must for sightseeing.
Passports and visas
We recommend that you check passport and visa requirements for the country you are visiting at the State Department if you have a U.S. Passport. Most countries require that your passport have at least six months validity when traveling internationally, and many require that you have one to two blank visa pages for either an entry stamp or visa. As a general rule, please check that your passport has six months validity beyond your planned trip, and if not, please renew your passport with plenty of time to provide Solos with your updated passport information by the final payment due date.

Not sure what travel documents you need? Our trusted partner, sherpa°, makes it easy to check visa and entry requirements based on your destination and passport. One quick check now means smooth sailing later. Click here to learn more.

From the 12th October 2025 the EU is introducing a new European Entry System (EES) that will be phased in and fully operational by the 10th April 2026. Non-EU nationals including British passport holders will now be required to complete biometric checks on arrival and exit to Schengen countries, which will include facial recognition and fingerprints. There is no cost for this, and no action needs to be taken prior to departure.
Health requirements

We recommend that you check if vaccinations are required for your destination at the CDC’s recommendations for your visited destination(s). We also recommend you purchase travel protection. A travel protection plan can often assist with medical emergencies and reimburse costs that are covered by the plan. Please verify coverage details with Solos before you travel.

Travel Insurance

We strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance before any trip — it safeguards you against unexpected issues like illness, cancellations, or lost luggage. It also protects your health and travel investment, giving you peace of mind to fully enjoy your journey. Click here to learn more.
