Mayrhofen Skiing

Our Location- Mayrhofen

Our Location- Mayrhofen

Nestled in the breathtaking Zillertal Valley, the charming resort town of Mayrhofen has long been a favorite for skiers and snowboarders. The area offers a huge, well-connected ski domain, including the snow-sure Hintertux Glacier just 30 minutes away. Mayrhofen is also known for its lively après-ski scene, making it a great choice for both adventure and fun.

Most of the skiing is on two sunny plateaus, Penken and Ahorn, easily accessible from the village center. With the Zillertal Superskipass, you can access the entire Ziller Valley — including Fügen, Kaltenbach, Zell am Ziller, Gerlos, Finkenberg, Lanersbach, and Hintertux Glacier — giving you over 302 miles of slopes and 168 lifts, all linked by a free bus or train.

Ideal for Intermediates

Ideal for Intermediates

Intermediate skiers will find Penken Mountain a perfect playground, with a wide variety of red runs that offer just the right mix of challenge and flow. The slopes are long, well-groomed, and often bathed in sunshine, giving skiers plenty of space to build confidence while enjoying the stunning mountain views.

For those looking for slightly gentler terrain, Kaltenbach offers wide, smooth blue runs that are perfect for practicing technique or enjoying a relaxed day on the slopes.

Advanced Ski

Advanced Ski

For advanced skiers, there are challenging runs down the Penken Mountain to Schwendau and through the trees from the Ahorn. The Horberg ski area also offers a number of exciting long runs such as the challenging Schafskopf mogul run. And if you feel like a real challenge, try what the resort markets as “the steepest groomed run in Austria” – nicknamed Hara Kiri. It is indeed steep, but is short enough that an accomplished intermediate could also tackle it.

Essential Information

Transfer time
The transfer from Innsbruck Airport to the hotel is approximately 1 hour 30 minutes, depending on weather and traffic.
Dress code
On a skiing holiday, dress is generally very informal, the emphasis being on comfort and warmth. We recommend that you pack a pair of skiing trousers and warm ski jacket or a waterproof shell and separate fleece lining or an all-in-one ski suit. Thermal or silk underwear is recommended. Cotton/cotton mix roll necks, T-shirts or sweat shirts; several thin layers are better than one thick layer. Ski socks, ski gloves or mitts and a hat or headband are suggested.

Where temperatures are expected to be well below zero, take a facemask or balaclava. Moon boots or waterproof walking shoes are a “must”. Suntan cream (high protective factor), lip salve, sunglasses and/or goggles are all very useful items to pack. Casual clothes are ideal for the evenings; it is unusual on skiing holidays to dress formally in the evenings.
Skiing costs
You may either take group ski lessons, private ski lessons or form groups to enjoy exploring the slopes together. Whatever you preference your Tour Leader will be available to help organise your skiing.

Ski Hire Poor piste conditions can be hazardous to ski equipment as uncovered rocks and stones can easily scratch and damage skis and snowboards. We strongly recommend you inspect your ski hire equipment at the start of your holiday and agree the state of their condition with the ski hire suppliers, as clients are responsible for the care of their hired equipment and should this equipment be damaged the ski hire suppliers are within their rights to ask for a compensation payment.

Ski Equipment This can be hired in the resort where you will be advised about the most suitable equipment for your standard of skiing. It is very important to have ski boots that are comfortable and fit well, so do not be afraid to keep going back and changing your boots until you get a good fit. For your safety, we advise that you wear a ski helmet wherever possible.

Ski Equipment can also be insured should any incidents with arise.

Ski Passes - € 370
Ski Hire -Discovery Bronze Ski €120 / Silver Ski €135 / Gold Ski €145
Boot Hire - €65
Helmet - €45
Please note all the above are 6 day adult prices and are subject to change.
Gratuities
We suggest a Group Collection to cover transfer drivers, and hotel staff of €20.00 per person. Your Tour Leader will collect this on your behalf and distribute it accordingly, thus relieving you of the burden of who, when and how much to tip. The tipping of housekeeping will be left to your individual discretion (a small amount left in your room on departure should cover this and would be much appreciated). As is customary, ‘the hat’ will be passed around for the driver and guide on all optional excursions.

For any meals that are not included in your itinerary, or taxi fares, your Tour Leader can advise of an appropriate % to add on. If you choose to have ski lessons, you may also like to thank your ski instructor at the end of the week with a token of appreciation.
Passport, Visa & Entry Requirements
We recommend that you check passport and visa requirements for the country you are visiting at the State Department if you have a U.S. Passport. Most countries require that your passport have at least six months validity when traveling internationally, and many require that you have one to two blank visa pages for either an entry stamp or visa. As a general rule, please check that your passport has six months validity beyond your planned trip, and if not, please renew your passport with plenty of time to provide Solos with your updated passport information by the final payment due date.

Not sure what travel documents you need? Our trusted partner, sherpa°, makes it easy to check visa and entry requirements based on your destination and passport. One quick check now means smooth sailing later. Click here to learn more.
Health Requirements

We recommend that you check if vaccinations are required for your destination at the CDC’s recommendations for your visited destination(s). We also recommend you purchase travel protection. A travel protection plan can often assist with medical emergencies and reimburse costs that are covered by the plan. Please verify coverage details with Solos before you travel.

Currency
Austria use the Euro.

Important information
It is advised that you have a good level of fitness for this trip.

Please note that many mountain restaurants and bars are cash only or will only take a card if over €50.00.
