Transfer time from the Shanghai Pudong International Airport to our hotel in Shanghai is approximately 35 minutes dependent on local traffic.

Transfer time from our hotel in Hong Kong to Hong Kong International Airport is approximately 35 minutes dependent on local traffic.
Dress Code

This tour is relaxed and informal, with a focus on comfort while sightseeing. Lightweight, breathable clothing is recommended, along with layers for cooler evenings, air-conditioned transport and mountain areas such as Zhangjiajie. Comfortable walking shoes are essential, as several days include walking on uneven paths, steps and scenic trails. A light waterproof jacket, sun protection and a small daypack are also advisable.

When visiting temples and cultural sites, we recommend dressing modestly, avoiding very short shorts or sleeveless tops. Smart-casual clothing is suitable for evenings and group dinners, with no formal attire required. For the glass bridges and mountain walks in Zhangjiajie, trainers or sturdy walking shoes with good grip are strongly recommended.

Gratuities
There is often confusion on the question of gratuities, since it frequently depends on the type of holiday, location and, of course, your attitude towards tipping, as to what is normally expected. To give you a rough idea, we have given appropriate guidance below. The Tour Leader will be on hand to offer advice or suggestions if required but gratuities are offered entirely at the sole discretion of the individual. We suggest a group collection at the beginning of your holiday to cover drivers, guides, porters and hotel staff, also USD 6 per person per day for guide, USD 3 per person per day for driver. Your Tour Leader will collect this on your behalf and distribute it accordingly, thus relieving you of the burden of who, when and how much to tip.
Passport, Visa & Entry Requirements

This tour is eligible for China’s 240-hour (10 nights / 11 days including arrival day) visa-free transit policy, allowing eligible travellers to visit China without applying for a visa in advance, provided all conditions are met.

Travellers holding a valid passport from one of the 55 eligible countries, including the USA, may enter China visa-free under this policy. The itinerary for Soul of China remains entirely within the permitted visa-free transit regions, and the total stay in mainland China does not exceed 240 hours from the time of arrival.

To qualify, travel must be in transit to a third country or region. For this tour, Hong Kong is classed as a third region, meaning travel from mainland China to Hong Kong satisfies the transit requirement. Guests must hold confirmed onward travel arrangements to Hong Kong before entering China. In our case, this will be a pre-booked train ticket from Guangzhou to Hong Kong, which meets the official requirement for onward departure.

Solos Holidays will provide photocopies of the confirmed Guangzhou–Hong Kong train tickets for guests to present at border control on arrival in Shanghai. These documents, together with a valid passport and tour itinerary, should be shown to immigration officers as proof of onward travel within the permitted time frame.

Please note that final entry approval is at the discretion of Chinese immigration authorities, and passport validity must meet standard entry requirements (recommended minimum of six months validity beyond travel dates).

We recommend that you check passport and visa requirements for the country you are visiting at the State Department if you have a U.S. Passport. Most countries require that your passport have at least six months validity when traveling internationally, and many require that you have one to two blank visa pages for either an entry stamp or visa. As a general rule, please check that your passport has six months validity beyond your planned trip, and if not, please renew your passport with plenty of time to provide Solos with your updated passport information by the final payment due date.
