Day Two: Discover York

Day Two: Discover York

After breakfast we head into the city for your morning guided walking tour. Discover the turbulent and fascinating history of York through the sights and tales told. View the City Walls, the famous Shambles and the imposing Clifford’s Tower. Originally built by William the Conqueror, it is all that remains of York Castle today, having once served as a prison and royal mint. A visit wouldn’t be complete without seeing the stunning York Minster Cathedral; it’s the largest Gothic cathedral in Northern Europe and can be dated back to the 4th century. Afterwards, there is time to explore the city's attractions or go shopping.
Back at the hotel in the evening, we meet up for pre-dinner drinks before dinner in the hotel restaurant.

Day Three: At Leisure

Day Three: At Leisure

The day is ours to explore the city, perhaps heading to The National Railway Museum? For something a little different, try the famous Jorvik Viking Centre. It’s a re-creation of the life led by the Viking invaders in York in AD867, complete with sounds and smells of the market and houses. Have lunch in one of the many cafés or a drink by the river.

Back at the hotel in the evening, we meet up for pre-dinner drinks before dinner in the hotel restaurant.

Important Information
Please note
A reasonable level of fitness/mobility is required for sightseeing.
Dress Code
The dress code for during the day is casual, layers are recommended. In the evenings the dress code is smart casual, with gentlemen requested to wear a shirt and tie. Comfortable shoes for walking and sightseeing are recommended.
Gratuities
There is often confusion on the question of gratuities, since it frequently depends on the type of holiday, location and, of course, your attitude towards tipping, as to what is normally expected. In order to give you a rough idea, we have given appropriate guidance below. The Tour Leader will be on hand to offer advice or suggestions if required but gratuities are offered entirely at the sole discretion of the individual. We suggest a group collection at the beginning of your holiday to cover drivers, guides and hotel staff (including restaurant, kitchen and reception staff) of approximately £10.

Your Tour Leader will collect this on your behalf and distribute it accordingly, thus relieving you of the burden of who, when and how much to tip. The tipping of bar staff and housekeeping will be left to your individual discretion (the rounding up of the drinks bill and a small amount left in your room on departure should cover this and would be much appreciated). As is customary, ‘the hat’ will be passed around for the driver and guide on all optional excursions. For any meals that are not included in your itinerary, restaurants expect a 10% gratuity (do check that service has not already been added to your bill). For taxis 10% of the metered fare.
Flights & Airport Transfers
Whether you'd like us to arrange your flights or prefer to book your own, we're here to make the process easy. Our team can secure flights from the location that suits you best or provide all the arrival and departure details you'll need if booking independently.

Arrival & departure airport transfers are included for the majority of our trips EXCEPT our UK Breaks, regardless if you book your own flights or if we book them for you. To learn more about flight options, payments, and transfers, click here.
Travel Insurance
