Day Two: Venetian Trail

If you’d sail to the west, you’ll end up in Italy. The Venetians ruled the Ionian sea for centuries and left their mark in the history of Corfu. Today our bus takes us to where Lawrence Durrell called ‘the most beautiful view in Europe’, with fabulous vistas over Paleokastritsa and to the Byzantine Castle of the Angels  (Angelokastro) played a major role in defending the island, against sieges of Corfu by the Ottomans. We will experience fabulous views over the rugged coastline with high cliffs above the dark blue sea. After a break in a local café in the charming hamlet of Krini, we continue along cobble stone path enjoying the sweeping, stunning views and the entire bay of Agios Georgios beach below.
We follow a footpath through olive groves with ageless trees before we walk down to the beautiful sandy beach. At a waterfront taverna a long table can be set and perhaps enjoy a salad with fresh fish for lunch (at own cost)

Day Three: Olive Trail

Day Three: Olive Trail

Corfu is visited by many people, but you still discover many places off the beaten track. Todays hike starts at the quaint, hidden gem village of Giannades . We head over undulating trails with rapidly changing scenery to picturesque village of Liapades; a place where time has stood still with Venetian manor houses and narrow cobbled lanes. After a well-deserved break on the main square, we’ll walk down to the shore. At the pristine beach of Limni, a secluded cove hidden in a forest of cypresses, a small boat will pick us up for an amazing cruise in the crystal-clear West coast waters. Our captain will navigate his boat through arches, into caves, underneath tall bluffs and cliffs along small bays and beaches.

We disembark in Paleokastritsa, a popular resort with a vibrant atmosphere. The taverna of Nikos is the place to be where we can have lunch (at own cost), with views over the beach and to the Holy monastery of Paleokastritsa.

Day Four: Smugglers Trail

Day Four: Smugglers Trail

After breakfast, we set off from Avlaki Beach, situated on the northern coast of Corfu. During the first hour of our walk, we traverse the Erimitis area, an unspoilt paradise of charming coves separated by small promontories that create a spectacular coastal landscape.Behind the pristine Akoli Beach lies a lake that is reputed to be exceptionally deep. In reality, however, it is relatively shallow, despite its name, which literally means "bottomless." Across the narrow strait, Albania appears remarkably close, so near that it almost feels within reach.

After passing the small harbour of Agios Stefanos, we continue along the coast by the exclusive Rothschild family estate. At Kerasia Beach, there is an opportunity to stop for a coffee before following the coastal path onward.

Our hike concludes at Kalami, a picturesque waterfront village. Here, we can enjoy lunch at the White House, once the former residence of author Lawrence Durrell and now a delightful beachfront taverna.

Day Five: Vista Trail

Day Five: Vista Trail

Today's hike begins in the shadow of the mighty Pantokratoras, the highest peak on Corfu and the mountain that majestically dominates the island's northern landscape.

When the sky is clear we can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views stretching across the entire east coast. We make our way to the charming village of Sokraki, a hidden gem that remains largely untouched by tourism and far removed from the island's busier resorts. This traditional settlement invites exploration, with its maze of narrow cobbled lanes, historic stone houses, and authentic Corfiot character offering a glimpse into a slower, more traditional way of life.

Continuing along sections of the renowned Corfu Trail, we pass through peaceful oak woodland interspersed with small vineyards and cultivated terraces that have shaped the landscape for generations. The route offers a wonderful variety of scenery, combining natural beauty with glimpses of the island's rural heritage.

Our journey then leads us past the tranquil waters of Lake Katapino before reaching the picturesque village of Spartilas. Perched on the mountainside with spectacular views below, this welcoming village provides the perfect place to end our walk. Here, we can finally remove our boots, relax in the shade, and celebrate the day's adventure with a well-earned, refreshing drink while taking in the stunning surroundings.

Day Six: Heartland Trail

Day Six: Heartland Trail

We set off along the shores of Corfu's lake district, far from the bustle of the island's busy coastline. Our first stop is the hidden Monastery of Onoufriou. Owing to its secluded location, the area has a mysterious atmosphere of peace and tranquillity. After a short visit within the monastery walls, we continue our journey, descending towards the wetlands of Kounoupina. Beneath the ancient Oak of Crab Lake, we have the opportunity to enjoy a relaxing break. From there, the route winds gracefully through the rolling hills of central Corfu, following narrow country lanes that gently undulate but are never steep.

Our walk concludes at Danilia, a unique heritage village designed to recreate a traditional Corfiot settlement. Numerous scenes from The Durrells were filmed here, making it the perfect place to raise a glass and celebrate a wonderful week of hiking.

Here, many scenes of The Durrell’s television series were shot, which makes it a suitable spot to celebrate the end of our fantastic walking week.

Essential Information

Walking Programme

Guided walks are included as part of this holiday. Your dedicated walking guide will brief you in resort on the daily walking programme.

The walking programme is graded by difficulty, and you can expect to walk varying distances with a range of ascents and descents. Some walks may be challenging, with uneven or rough terrain underfoot and sections at higher altitude. Please refer to the day-by-day itinerary for full details of each walk.

A good level of physical fitness is required to fully enjoy this holiday.

It is important that you consider whether your chosen holiday is suitable for your level of fitness, mobility and any medical conditions or additional needs. If you are unsure, please contact our team before booking. We will be happy to discuss the holiday requirements and your individual circumstances to help you decide whether the holiday is suitable for you.

We are committed to treating all customers fairly and will consider any reasonable adjustments where possible. Please let us know before booking if you have a disability, medical condition or any additional requirements that may affect your holiday. This allows us to assess whether we can safely and appropriately accommodate your needs and to ensure you have the best possible holiday experience.

What to Wear - Walking Days
It is important that you have the correct footwear. It is essential to wear walking boots that are comfortable and preferably lightweight, with some ankle support and a good grip. If you already have a pair of boots that you are happy walking in (including during hot/wet weather and on hard ground), then bring these along. However, if you are bringing new footwear, do make sure they are well broken in before you arrive. The weather, even in summer, can be unpredictable. We would therefore recommend you travel with clothing suitable for all conditions, and suggest you use the following checklist as a guideline of what to take:
  • Walking boots with good ankle support
  • Waterproofs – jacket and trousers
  • Walking poles – recommended as they provide good support for the knees, particularly on downhill sections of walks and when conditions are wet/slippery
  • Lightweight trousers and shorts with pockets
  • Shirts or t-shirts for walking in
  • Walking socks – several pairs
  • Lightweight fleece or jumper
  • Hat & gloves
  • Daysack/rucksack for walking
  • Umbrella – it can be used also for protection from the sun as well as rain
  • Lightweight drinking bottle to carry water whilst walking
  • Small first aid kit – plasters, insect repellent, etc
  • Good, high factor sunscreen, sunhat and sunglasses – the sun’s strength is often multiplied in mountainous areas.
