Trip Reviews

Solos never disappoint

Just come back from a short break to Harrogate. Debs was fantastic and made sure everyone had the best time. Having coffee at the Majestic on the last day was great and something different. I’ve done a few Solos holidays and they never disappoint.

Enjoyed everything

I enjoyed everything about this holiday. Nigel the tour leader is a credit to your organisation. He is very helpful, kind and pleasant. I paid extra to Solos for an upgrade and room was excellent. Staff are young but they are really kind and pleasant and well turned out.

Accommodation

The Old Swan Hotel

The Old Swan Hotel is one of Harrogate’s most famous historic hotels, best known as the place where Agatha Christie stayed during her mysterious 11-day disappearance in 1926. Originally dating back to the 18th century, the hotel became a grand Victorian spa retreat known as the “Harrogate Hydro,” complete with Turkish baths and elegant gardens. Today it combines period charm with modern accommodation and remains a landmark of Harrogate’s spa-town heritage.
Facilities include:

The hotel still retains much of its Victorian atmosphere with sweeping staircases, traditional lounges, the impressive glass-roofed Wedgwood restaurant and large gardens.

Room includes:
Rooms are equipped with TV, Wi-Fi, tea/coffee-making facilities and hairdryer.

Essential Information

Location & Transport
The hotel is located off Junction 45 off the A1 and then exit onto the A661 to Harrogate. Harrogate station is 1 mile away. There are over 100 car parking spaces on site, which are on a first come, first served basis. Parking is charged at £12.00 per day per car and is regulated by the Council. You must display a valid permit which can be collected from reception on arrival.
Gratuities
There is often confusion on the question of gratuities, since it frequently depends on the type of holiday, location and, of course, your attitude towards tipping, as to what is normally expected. In order to give you a rough idea, we have given appropriate guidance below. The Tour Leader will be on hand to offer advice or suggestions if required but gratuities are offered entirely at the sole discretion of the individual. We suggest a group collection at the beginning of your holiday to cover drivers, guides and hotel staff (including restaurant, kitchen and reception staff) of approximately £5.

Your Tour Leader will collect this on your behalf and distribute it accordingly, thus relieving you of the burden of who, when and how much to tip. The tipping of bar staff and housekeeping will be left to your individual discretion (the rounding up of the drinks bill and a small amount left in your room on departure should cover this and would be much appreciated). As is customary, ‘the hat’ will be passed around for the driver and guide on all optional excursions. For any meals that are not included in your itinerary, restaurants expect a 10% gratuity (do check that service has not already been added to your bill). For taxis 10% off the metered fare.
Dress Code
The dress code for during the day is casual. In the evenings the dress code is smart with gentlemen requested to wear a shirt and tie. Comfortable shoes for walking and sightseeing are recommended.
