Trip Reviews

Best of both worlds

Kenya 'best of both worlds' Safari and Beach Holiday. For me it was a bucket list trip of a lifetime holiday and literally was 'the best of both worlds'. A small group of 8 of us expertly guided by the very diligent and affable tour leader Monica Tigani. Planes, trains, automobiles, balloons and boats, not to mention the huge menagerie of wildlife including the 'big 5' (very fortunate to see the leopard). Golden beaches, warm seas beautiful sunsets/rises, fab hotels and great game lodges....(where else can you wake up to the sound of lions roaring in the distance or watch wild hippos grazing on the lawn in front of your lodge). Amazing experience.

Amazing Kenya Safari & Beach

This was my first solo’s holiday and what can I say…it was incredible, amazing, fantastic…everything I hoped for & a whole lot more. This has been on my bucket list for a while & it was full of WOW moments from beginning to end, the Safari was breathtakingly stunning & we had a great TL Monica, I still can’t believe we saw the big five, (lions, elephants, rhinos, a cheetah & the elusive leopard) plus all the other amazing animals at the lakes & game reserves. Then we finished up in Mombasa on the beach which was much needed to relax, have a ‘few’ cocktails & enjoy the sunshine in a great hotel. Met some great people on this trip which made it even more special!!

  • Safari game drives take place in 4WD Land Cruisers with pop-up roofs for optimal wildlife viewing. Each vehicle carries a maximum of six guests.

  • Wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed, but our experienced driver-guides will do everything possible to provide the best safari experience.
  • The order of the itinerary and included activities may be subject to change due to operational requirements, weather conditions or local circumstances.
  • Kenya has a strict ban on single-use plastic bags. Bringing plastic carrier bags into the country is prohibited and may result in fines. We recommend using reusable or fabric bags for your travels.

Currency
The local currency is the Kenyan shilling (KES) but USD are widley accepted at hotels, lodges, and for tipping.

Credit and debit cards are accepted in most urban hotels and large lodges. Visa and mastercard are more commonly accepted than AmEx.

ATMs are available at the airport and in Nairobi, dispensing KES, International cards are accepted (notify your bank before travel).

It is useful to have small notes, 100 or 200 KES for tipping of porters, housekeeping etc.
Gratuities
We suggest a Group Collection to cover guides, transfer drivers, and hotel staff of £60.00 per person. Your Tour Leader will collect this on your behalf and distribute it accordingly, thus relieving you of the burden of who, when and how much to tip. The tipping of housekeeping will be left to your individual discretion (a small amount left in your room on departure should cover this and would be much appreciated). As is customary, ‘the hat’ will be passed around for the driver and guide on all optional excursions. For any meals that are not included in your itinerary, or taxi fares, your Tour Leader can advise of an appropriate % to add on.
Dress Code
The emphasis is on casual clothing throughout, dressing in layers and waterproofs to allow for changes in the weather.

On safari:
  • Neutral-coloured, breathable clothing.
  • Comfortable shoes or walking boots.
  • Long sleeved/trousers for sun and insect protection.
