What you'll be doing

Day One: Arrival in Liguria
- Dinner included

Day Two: Monterosso, Vernazza & Riomaggiore
Today we discover two of the Cinque Terre's most celebrated walking trails. After travelling by train to Monterosso, we have time to explore its historic centre before beginning our walk to Vernazza.
The trail climbs away from the coastline via ancient stone steps before following a spectacular route through olive groves, Mediterranean woodland and terraced vineyards. Along the way, panoramic viewpoints reveal sweeping vistas across the Ligurian Sea, before the path descends into the colourful harbour of Vernazza, often considered the most picturesque of the five villages. After free time for lunch, we continue by train to Riomaggiore, where we enjoy a leisurely stroll through its narrow lanes, colourful houses and bustling marina before returning to La Spezia.
What to expect: This is one of the most iconic walks in the Cinque Terre. It includes sustained climbs and descents, many stone steps and some narrow sections of path. Good walking shoes are essential, and frequent photo stops make the climb especially rewarding.
- Breakfast Included
- Walking time: Approx. 3–3½ hours Note: 2h30 of walking in the morning, 1h walk in the afternoon through the village of Riomaggiore.
- Distance: Approx. 8 km
- Ascent / Descent: Approx. 350m ascent and 350m descent
- Terrain: Stone steps, uneven dirt and rocky paths with some narrow sections and sustained climbs and descents.
- Grade: Moderate

Day Three: Corniglia, Volastra & Manarola
This morning we travel to Corniglia, the only Cinque Terre village set high above the sea. After climbing the village's famous staircase, we follow peaceful trails through vineyards and olive terraces towards the hilltop hamlet of Volastra.
The route offers a quieter side of the Cinque Terre, where generations of local families have cultivated the dramatic hillside terraces. After lunch, we descend towards Manarola, enjoying magnificent views over vineyards cascading towards the sea before arriving in one of Italy's most photographed villages, with its colourful houses clustered around a tiny natural harbour. Those who prefer not to complete the downhill section can travel to Manarola by local minibus.
What to expect: Although not technically difficult, this walk includes a steady climb followed by a long descent on steps and uneven paths. The vineyard scenery is among the finest in the National Park.
- Breakfast included
- Walking time: Approx. 3 hours
- Distance: Approx. 7 km
- Ascent / Descent: Approx. 400m ascent and 400m descent
- Terrain: Vineyard paths, stone steps, dirt tracks and uneven rocky surfaces with some narrow sections. A minibus is available from Volastra to Manarola for those wishing to avoid the final descent.
- Grade: Moderate

Day Four: Day at leisure | Relax & Recharge
Today is free to relax or explore independently.
We recommend visiting the beautiful Gulf of the Poets, where the seaside towns of Lerici and San Terenzo can easily be reached by public bus. With colourful waterfronts, historic castles and sweeping coastal views, this peaceful stretch of coastline has inspired writers and artists for centuries.
- Breakfast included

Day Five: Santa Margherita & Portofino
Today we experience the elegance of the Italian Riviera. We begin in Santa Margherita Ligure, where palm-lined promenades, grand villas and Belle Époque architecture reflect the area's glamorous past.
Our walk follows an ancient mule track through fragrant pine and Mediterranean woodland, offering occasional glimpses of the sparkling coastline before arriving in the exclusive harbour of Portofino. After exploring its famous piazzetta, boutiques and waterfront, we continue to the lighthouse, where spectacular coastal views provide a fitting finale before returning by boat to Santa Margherita.
What to expect: This is a gentler walking day, with wide footpaths, cobbled tracks and shaded woodland making it a pleasant contrast to the steeper Cinque Terre trails.
- Breakfast included
- Walking time: Approx. 3½ hours
- Distance: Approx. 8 km
- Ascent / Descent: Approx. 300m ascent and 300m descent
- Terrain: Wide mule tracks, cobbled paths, woodland trails and paved lanes with gentle to moderate gradients.
- Grade: Moderate

Day Six: Day at leisure
Enjoy another day at leisure to discover more of Liguria at your own pace or simply relax in La Spezia.
Alternatively, revisit the Gulf of the Poets, explore local cafés and markets, or soak up the atmosphere along the city's attractive waterfront.
In the evening, we wrap the day up with dinner at hotel restaurant.
- Breakfast included

Day Seven: Palmaria Island & Portovenere
Our final guided walk takes us to Palmaria Island, a UNESCO-listed natural reserve lying just across the water from Portovenere.
Following coastal paths around the island, we pass historic military fortifications, abandoned marble quarries and rugged limestone cliffs while enjoying uninterrupted views across the Gulf of the Poets and back towards the Cinque Terre coastline. After our walk, we sail past the small islands of Tino and Tinetto before arriving in beautiful Portovenere, where colourful waterfront buildings, medieval lanes and the dramatic Church of St Peter await exploration.
What to expect: Palmaria offers a more natural, less-visited landscape than the Cinque Terre. The paths are rocky in places with moderate ascents and descents, but the island's peaceful atmosphere and wide-ranging coastal views make it a memorable finale to the holiday.
- Breakfast & dinner included
- Walking time: Approx. 2–3½ hours
- Distance: Approx. 5 km
- Ascent / Descent: Approx. 200–300m ascent and descent
- Terrain: Uneven dirt and rocky coastal paths with moderate climbs and descents.
- Grade: Moderate

Day Eight: Departure Day
It's time to say “Arrivederci”! After breakfast, we transfer to Pisa airport for our flight home, taking with us wonderful memories of spectacular coastal walks, colourful villages and the timeless beauty of the Italian Riviera.

There is often confusion on the question of gratuities, since it frequently depends on the type of holiday, location and, of course, your attitude towards tipping, as to what is normally expected. To give you a rough idea, we have given appropriate guidance below.
Your Tour Leader will be on hand to offer advice or suggestions if required but gratuities are offered entirely at the sole discretion of the individual. We suggest a group collection at the beginning of your holiday to cover drivers, guides, porters, and hotel staff of approximately €35.00 per person. Your Tour Leader will collect this on your behalf and distribute it accordingly, thus relieving you of the burden of who, when and how much to tip.
