Day Two: Somerset Coast and Quantock Hills
We begin our day with a short bus ride to the scenic village of Kilve, where we join the West Somerset Coast Path—marked by an ammonite symbol and known as Somerset’s Jurassic Coast due to its rich fossil heritage. Our 7-mile route follows the coastal path with stunning views across the Bristol Channel to Wales, before heading inland into the Quantock Hills, designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Along the way, our guide will highlight the area's unique geology and explain why this area is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).
After leaving the coast, we join the Coleridge Way and Quantock Greenway, following in the footsteps of poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge. The trail continues uphill, passing through deciduous and coniferous woodlands and 17th and 18th-century parklands before stopping at a local pub for a short break. From there, we walk to Williton and board the heritage West Somerset Railway—Britain’s longest preserved line—for a scenic ride to Watchet.
Watchet harbour dates to the 15th century and we explore its marina and the Ancient Mariner statue, inspired by Coleridge’s poem. An optional short walk takes us to Daw’s Castle—9th-century earthworks built by Alfred the Great—with sweeping panoramic views. We finish the day by bus, returning to our hotel.

After a refreshment stop we walk along the beach to Sandy Point where we can enjoy views across to the Brean Peninsular.
