Essential Information

Passports and visas

British passport holders must have a passport that is valid for at least six months beyond the date of entry into Madagascar. Your passport should also have at least one blank page for entry and exit stamps.

Visa:
British citizens require a visa to enter Madagascar. Tourist visas can usually be obtained on arrival at Antananarivo International Airport or in advance through the Madagascan Embassy. An immigration form must also be completed on arrival.

Visa fees are payable in cash and vary depending on the length of stay. For this tour, an up to 30-day tourist visa will be required.

As entry requirements can change, customers should check the latest advice before travelling.

Transfer Time
The transfer time from Ivato international Airport to your hotel in Antananarivo City centre is approximately 45 minutes, depending on the traffic.
Currency
The official currency of Madagascar is the Malagasy Ariary (MGA). Cash is widely used throughout the country, particularly outside the capital. ATMs are available in larger towns and cities but can be unreliable, so we recommend carrying a small amount of cash. Euros (€) are the most widely accepted foreign currency for exchange, and major credit cards are accepted in some hotels and larger establishments, although cash is preferred in many locations.
Gratuities
We suggest a Group Collection to cover guides, transfer drivers, and hotel staff of £60.00 per person. Your Tour Leader will collect this on your behalf and distribute it accordingly, thus relieving you of the burden of who, when and how much to tip. The tipping of housekeeping will be left to your individual discretion (a small amount left in your room on departure should cover this and would be much appreciated). As is customary, ‘the hat’ will be passed around for the driver and guide on all optional excursions. For any meals that are not included in your itinerary, or taxi fares, your Tour Leader can advise of an appropriate % to add on.
Dress Code
Casual dress is appropriate throughout. Lightweight clothing and comfortable walking shoes are recommended, together with a light jacket for cooler evenings. Don't forget a hat, sunglasses, insect repellent and sunscreen for wildlife excursions.
Important information
Madagascar is a large island with limited road infrastructure, so some longer road journeys are necessary to experience its spectacular wildlife and landscapes. To reduce travel time, this itinerary includes domestic flights and scenic boat transfers where possible. Some walks take place on uneven forest trails and may include steps, tree roots and muddy ground, so a reasonable level of mobility is required.
Health requirements
There are no mandatory vaccinations for travellers arriving from the UK, although routine vaccinations should be up to date. Depending on your personal medical history and travel plans, your GP or travel health clinic may recommend additional vaccinations or anti-malarial medication. As some areas visited are home to mosquitoes, we recommend using insect repellent and wearing lightweight clothing that covers exposed skin where appropriate.
WhatsApp Group
Shortly before your holiday, you will be invited to join an optional WhatsApp group to connect with your fellow travellers and your Tour Leader.
Importan Information
It is important to consider whether this holiday is suitable for your level of fitness, mobility, and any medical conditions. We are committed to making reasonable adjustments wherever possible. Please tell us about any disability, medical condition, or additional requirements before booking so we can assess whether we can safely and appropriately accommodate your needs. If you are unsure whether this holiday is suitable for you, please contact us before booking. We will be happy to discuss the holiday requirements and your individual circumstances.
