One of our golf Tour Leaders, Nick Fletcher, has given us his insight into the British Masters and what to expect on one of our UK golfing holidays this summer!

Why I’m looking forward to this year’s Betfred British Masters

Incredible though it sounds the British Masters has been running for 124 years. Since 2015, a leading British golfer has hosted the event and chosen the course. This season sees former Masters champion Danny Willet returning to The Belfry, in Sutton Coldfield, for the second time in a row – and this year with crowds in attendance. The atmosphere should be amazing.

We often overlook the fact that some of the top courses can be found right here in the UK and this week’s (May 5th to 8th) tournament will see some of the best players in the world competing on home soil. Last year’s competition was won by English player Richard Bland, who will returning to play alongside the likes of Lee Westwood and Robert MacIntyre.

The Belfry is a stunning course with lots of history. The main, award-winning tournament course, The Brabazon, sits alongside the PGA National and The Derby. All three are world class and the Belfry has seen more drama than most, having hosted the Ryder Cup four times (more than any other venue in the world). Set in a beautiful part of the country it makes for a great holiday location as it also has a four-star hotel, a spa and tennis courts.

Sociable weeks in the sunshine with Solos

Solos offers exclusive golfing breaks in Chepstow, Derbyshire and the North West. On a warm summer’s day there’s no better place to be sipping a post-play pint or glass of Pimm’s!

All our golf holidays include fun, social, team competitions which are organised by Solos golf Tour Leaders like myself. Our trips are designed to make sure you have access to the best golf courses possible and our holidays are specially designed for the solo golfer of all levels to enjoy. Look out for our flagship spring and autumn festival weeks in Spain which include three days of enjoyable team competitions, plus two days individual Stableford competition to find our overall ladies and gents’ champion golfers of the week.

With excellent hotels, fantastic courses and confirmed tee times you can relax knowing you will experience a great sociable golf break.

What about the solo element?

I do everything I can to make your golf holiday as inclusive as possible. Solos golf holidays are first and foremost social holidays, some of my responsibilities include arranging the mixed daily fun competition, usually teams of 4 men and ladies and mixed handicaps.  We offer both Handicap and non-handicap holidays so no matter what level you are we have a holiday or short break to suit you.

More and more golfers are joining our holidays and with golfers from all age groups and handicaps. There are many golf companies offering holidays, but none offer golfing holidays specifically for the solo traveller. For a start all our holidays include single occupancy rooms. After a day of fun and sociable golf, we always meet for a pre-dinner drink before dining together on our allocated tables. You may arrive as a solo golfer, but you will leave with many new friends and golf companions.

Heading off on a solo golf trip might be the best thing you do this year.
