Meet the Tour Leader: Nick Fletcher

If you've joined a Solos Golf trip over the last decade, there's a good chance you've crossed paths with Nick Fletcher. Known for his friendly approach, sense of humour and ability to make everyone feel welcome, Nick has been helping Solos golfers enjoy memorable experiences on and off the course since 2015.

Whether he's organising tee times, sharing local knowledge, or catching up with familiar faces from trips gone by, Nick is passionate about creating a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere for everyone who travels with Solos. We caught up with him to learn more about his favourite golf destinations, his life away from the fairways, and the advice he'd give to anyone considering their first Solos Golf trip.

So let’s get into it…

How long have you been with Solos and what first attracted you to becoming a Golf Tour Leader?

"My first trip was on 29th September 2015. My best friend was already working for Solos as a Tour Leader."

Nick's introduction to Solos came through a recommendation from a friend, but what started as a new opportunity quickly became something much bigger. Nearly 11 years later, he's still leading golf groups across Europe and beyond, building lasting friendships and welcoming both new and returning guests on every departure.

What's your favourite golf destination you've hosted and why?

"That's a difficult question! My top three are Mauritius, Belek in Turkey and Gran Canaria. They all offer excellent golf courses and facilities."

Choosing a favourite golf destination isn't easy when you've visited so many fantastic courses over the years. For Nick, Mauritius stands out for its tropical scenery and championship-standard courses, while Belek has become one of Europe's premier golf destinations thanks to its outstanding resorts and immaculate fairways. Gran Canaria completes the list, offering year-round sunshine and a great mix of challenging golf and relaxed island atmosphere.

If you could play one golf course anywhere in the world tomorrow, where would it be?

“Right now, any golf course in Northern Ireland or Scotland, with the hope the temperature is a lot less than it is here in Spain! But for something different Lofoten links in Norway. During June & July you can play 24 hours a day, in day light!”

While many golfers dream of heading somewhere exotic, Nick's answer reflects his appreciation for some of the world's most iconic golfing landscapes. Scotland and Northern Ireland are home to legendary links courses, dramatic coastal views and golfing history at every turn. Plus, after a summer in Spain, the cooler temperatures sound quite appealing too!

What's the funniest or most memorable moment you've experienced on a Solos golf trip?

"Nearly every trip comes up with a new one...

My first trip will always be memorable at Isla Canela in Spain. Nearly 11 years later, I still catch up with quite a few of the clients on Solos golf trips. In fact, Paul Wilkinson will be joining me at La Finca near Alicante in September."

For Nick, it's the people who make the memories. While every trip brings its own stories and laughs, the friendships formed through Solos are what stand out most. The fact that he's still in touch with guests from his very first trip is a testament to the strong sense of community that develops on Solos Golf tours.

What three things can always be found in your golf bag?

"A selection of Eric's (hats), sweets donated by Roy, Ettaline and Elaine, and my Solos clipboard."

Not every golf bag contains spare hats, a collection of sweets and a clipboard, but then again, not every golfer is responsible for looking after an entire group! These essentials have become part of Nick's signature setup and are likely familiar to many returning guests.

If you weren't playing golf, what would we find you doing instead?

"I play padel. But when at home I spend a lot of time in our garden. Or in the kitchen and at the BBQ cooking."

Away from the golf course, Nick enjoys staying active with padel, one of the world's fastest-growing sports. When he's not playing, you'll often find him tending to the garden or cooking up something tasty on the BBQ – another hobby that requires patience, skill and good timing!

What's your top tip for someone joining their very first Solos Golf trip?

"Relax and enjoy it... and if you need a buggy, pre-book with Solos!"

Simple but effective advice. Many first-time guests arrive wondering what to expect, but Nick's message is clear: relax, enjoy the experience and focus on having a good time. Everything else tends to fall into place once you're on tour and meeting fellow golfers.

Finally, after a great round of golf, what's your go-to drink at the 19th hole?

"Playing a great round doesn't happen that often! although It has been known for me to win on the odd occasion…. However, all rounds are fun and enjoyable. Drink of choice after the game, a large Clara de Limón (shandy)."

A refreshing Clara de Limón is Nick's drink of choice after a day on the course, whether the scorecard was kind or not. After all, one of the best things about golf trips is that the conversations at the 19th hole are often just as enjoyable as the golf itself.

Final Thoughts

From his first Solos trip in 2015 to welcoming familiar faces year after year, Nick's passion for golf travel is clear to see. Coming up for Nick 2026/27 will be leading golf groups in Spain, Turkey, Mauritius, Cambodia, Costa Navarino Greece, Mallorca and Gran Canaria. Why not join him and other solo golfers? Meet new golfers, make friends and create great memories. If you meet up with Nick don’t forget to ask about the hats, the sweets, or which holidays should you book next.
