Bali

Picturesque Central Bali

The excursion begins with a scenic drive into central Bali to the small town of Mengwi. Long associated with the Balinese royal family, Mengwi is home to the magnificent Taman Ayun Temple. This elegant temple complex is regarded as one of Bali’s most attractive and remains an important ceremonial site for communities from across the island. The journey continues north into the Bedugul highlands, renowned for their cool climate, lush scenery, and three volcanic lakes—Beratan, Buyan, and Tamblingan. The first stop is Candi Kuning Market, where vibrant stalls showcase Bali’s fresh fruits, exotic spices, and fragrant flowers used in daily offerings and ceremonies.

Next, visit the iconic Ulun Danu Beratan Temple, a 17th-century Hindu Shivite water temple set on the tranquil shores of Lake Beratan. During the rainy season, rising water levels create the enchanting illusion of the temple floating on the lake. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before continuing south to the UNESCO-listed Jatiluwih rice terraces. These vast, emerald-green paddies stretch as far as the eye can see and exemplify Bali’s ancient irrigation system. There is an optional walk through the terraces (*) before returning to your vehicle for the drive back to your hotel.

(*) Please note the rice terraces are often wet and slippery and we recommend footwear with good grip.

Continue to Narmada Water Palace, built in 1805 by the King of Mataram. Its centerpiece is an artificial lake designed to represent Segara Anak, the sacred crater lake of Mount Rinjani, allowing the king to make offerings when he could no longer climb the mountain.

Next, visit the serene Mayura Water Palace, completed in 1744 and featuring a graceful floating pavilion set within a tranquil lake and shaded gardens.

The tour concludes in Karang Jangkok, a village renowned for its “cukli” wood carvings. Watch skilled artisans at work, browse the local market, and shop for distinctive handmade souvenirs before returning to your hotel.

Continue to Lombok’s scenic south coast, home to some of the island’s most beautiful beaches, including Kuta Beach, where you’ll enjoy lunch at a local restaurant.

The Gilies Adventure

Depart early from your Lombok hotel for Teluk Kodek Harbor and board a boat to the Gili Islands, with Gili Trawangan—the largest of the three—as your base. Surrounded by crystal-clear waters, vibrant coral reefs, and abundant tropical fish, the Gilis are ideal for marine exploration.

Travel by traditional wooden boat between Gili Air, Gili Meno, and Gili Trawangan, with opportunities to snorkel at renowned sites such as Sunrise Point (Gili Air), Turtle Point, Statue Point, and Blue Coral (Gili Meno). Lunch is typically enjoyed on Gili Air, depending on timing.

In the afternoon, spend time at leisure on Gili Trawangan. With no motorised vehicles, the island offers a relaxed pace of life—explore by bicycle, stroll the beaches, or take a traditional horse-drawn cart (cidomo) ride. Later, cruise back to the Lombok mainland and return to your hotel.

Note: This is an easy-level activity and does not require swimming skills, although basic swimming ability is beneficial for snorkeling.

Currently $77 per person

Dress Code
When visiting Bali, it's important to dress appropriately for both the climate and the local culture. We recommend light fabrics, shorts, tshirts, sundresses etc. When visiting temples or other religious sites, it's important to dress modestly. Men and women should wear clothing that covers their shoulders and knees.
Gratuities
There is often confusion on the question of gratuities, since it frequently depends on the type of holiday, location and, of course, your attitude towards tipping, as to what is normally expected. To give you a rough idea, we have given appropriate guidance below. The Tour Leader will be on hand to offer advice or suggestions if required but gratuities are offered entirely at the sole discretion of the individual. We suggest a group collection at the beginning of your holiday to cover drivers, guides, porters and hotel staff of approximately 1,101,375 IDR eqivalent to approximately 70 USD. Your Tour Leader will collect this on your behalf and distribute it accordingly, thus relieving you of the burden of who, when and how much to tip.
Passport, Visa & Entry Requirements

We recommend that you check passport and visa requirements for the country you are visiting at the State Department if you have a U.S. Passport. Most countries require that your passport have at least six months validity when traveling internationally, and many require that you have one to two blank visa pages for either an entry stamp or visa. As a general rule, please check that your passport has six months validity beyond your planned trip, and if not, please renew your passport with plenty of time to provide Solos with your updated passport information by the final payment due date.

Not sure what travel documents you need? Our trusted partner, sherpa°, makes it easy to check visa and entry requirements based on your destination and passport. One quick check now means smooth sailing later. Click here to learn more.

Health Requirements

We recommend that you check if vaccinations are required for your destination at the CDC’s recommendations for your visited destination(s). We also recommend you purchase travel protection. A travel protection plan can often assist with medical emergencies and reimburse costs that are covered by the plan. Please verify coverage details with Solos before you travel.
