Day Eight: Komodo National Park

Today's adventure begins with an early morning pick-up from our hotel, followed by a transfer to the harbour to board our boat for a full-day cruise through the spectacular Komodo National Park, visiting some of the region's most iconic islands and natural wonders. Our first stop is Komodo Island, one of the few places in the world where you can observe the legendary Komodo dragon in its natural habitat. These remarkable reptiles are the largest lizards on Earth, growing up to three metres in length and weighing as much as 65kg. Accompanied by an experienced park ranger, we enjoy a guided walk through the island's rugged landscape, where we may encounter these fascinating creatures alongside native wildlife including Timor deer, wild boar, water buffalo and a variety of bird species.

Continue to the famous Pink Beach, renowned for its unique blush-coloured sand created by fragments of red coral mixing with soft white sand. Surrounded by crystal-clear turquoise waters and vibrant coral reefs, this idyllic beach provides the perfect opportunity to relax, swim or snorkel among an abundance of colourful tropical marine life.

Our journey then takes us to Rinca Island, another excellent location for spotting Komodo dragons. Arriving at Loh Buaya Pier, we follow the elevated wooden boardwalks to the Komodo Information Centre before setting off on a guided trek through the island. Although the dragons here are generally slightly smaller than those on Komodo Island, they are equally impressive and are often seen resting beneath trees or roaming freely across the savannah, offering another unforgettable wildlife encounter.

A traditional Flores lunch, prepared with fresh local ingredients, is served in this picturesque setting.

Gain an insight into the craftsmanship and heritage behind these beautiful handwoven textiles, which remain an important symbol of Flores culture.

Essential Information

Transfer Time
Denpasar Airport to Ubud is approximately 45 mins. Sanur to Denpasar Airport is approximately 40 mins.
Important Information
As part of health & safety we do require all our guests to be able to manage the demands of the trip. This will often include early starts with long days travelling by foot and on and off minibuses/coaches. You also must be mindful that when visiting a country with different cuisine and culture, special dietary requests cannot always be made as readily available with great choice. Please see the day by day itinerary for details of the programme.

The order of the itinerary and events may be subject to change according to traffic, weather conditions and other unforeseen circumstances beyond control. There is an included hike on day 5 of this itinerary.  This hike takes approx. 1hr each way, and goes through diverse jungle terrain. A good level of fitness is required. The macaque monkeys in the Monkey forest and Uluwatu Temple can be a considerable annoyance. Please pay attention to the advice from your guide on the precautions you should take when visiting temples or forests inhabited by monkeys.
Dress Code
When visiting Bali, it's important to dress appropriately for both the climate and the local culture. We recommend light fabrics, shorts, tshirts, sundresses etc. When visiting temples or other religious sites, it's important to dress modestly. Men and women should wear clothing that covers their shoulders and knees. For added comfort and safety, we suggest bringing water shoes for the waterfalls and beaches.
Gratuities
There is often confusion on the question of gratuities, since it frequently depends on the type of holiday, location and, of course, your attitude towards tipping, as to what is normally expected. To give you a rough idea, we have given appropriate guidance below. The Tour Leader will be on hand to offer advice or suggestions if required but gratuities are offered entirely at the sole discretion of the individual. We suggest a group collection at the beginning of your holiday to cover drivers, guides, porters and hotel staff of approximately 1,101,375 IDR eqivalent to approximately 70 USD. Your Tour Leader will collect this on your behalf and distribute it accordingly, thus relieving you of the burden of who, when and how much to tip.
Passport, Visa & Entry Requirements

We recommend that you check passport and visa requirements for the country you are visiting at the State Department if you have a U.S. Passport. Most countries require that your passport have at least six months validity when traveling internationally, and many require that you have one to two blank visa pages for either an entry stamp or visa. As a general rule, please check that your passport has six months validity beyond your planned trip, and if not, please renew your passport with plenty of time to provide Solos with your updated passport information by the final payment due date.

Not sure what travel documents you need? Our trusted partner, sherpa°, makes it easy to check visa and entry requirements based on your destination and passport. One quick check now means smooth sailing later. Click here to learn more.

Health Requirements

We recommend that you check if vaccinations are required for your destination at the CDC’s recommendations for your visited destination(s). We also recommend you purchase travel protection. A travel protection plan can often assist with medical emergencies and reimburse costs that are covered by the plan. Please verify coverage details with Solos before you travel.
