Giraffe Centre and Karen Blixen Museum
The giraffe centre is the headquarters for the African Fund for Endangered Wildlife, established in 1983 as a sanctuary for the then endangered Rothschild giraffe. The breeding program has been a great success, and visitors can now watch these gentle giants at eye level from a raised platform. There is also the opportunity to learn more about giraffe at the interpretation centre and hand-feed them.
Next, we visit the Karen Blixen Museum, that was once part of her vast coffee estate, “Mbogani” and her home from 1917 until 1931. After her departure the suburbs retained the commemorative home of Karen and the house was restored by the Danish government and used during the filming of "Out of Africa". Glimpse into the typical colonial life in Kenya.
