Day Two: Copenhagen Tour

Day Two: Copenhagen Tour

This morning, we set off on a guided coach tour of Copenhagen, discovering the charm and elegance of Denmark’s vibrant capital. Our journey takes us past the impressive Christiansborg Palace, home to the Danish Parliament, Supreme Court, and the Prime Minister’s Office, before continuing to Amalienborg Palace, the official residence of the Danish royal family, where we may witness the famous changing of the guard ceremony. We then explore the picturesque waterfront district of Nyhavn, one of Copenhagen’s most iconic sights, with its colorful 17th-century townhouses, historic wooden ships, and lively atmosphere.
No visit to the city would be complete without seeing the celebrated Little Mermaid statue, inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s beloved fairytale and regarded as a symbol of Copenhagen itself. Our tour concludes with a visit to the famous Tivoli Gardens, one of the world’s oldest amusement parks, renowned for its beautiful gardens, enchanting atmosphere, and live entertainment. This afternoon is free for you to enjoy at leisure. Perhaps relax in one of the city’s welcoming cafés, soak up the laid-back Scandinavian lifestyle, or revisit some of the sights from this morning’s tour.

Admire the iconic Øresund Bridge — famed as the setting of the Nordic noir series The Bridge — as we travel by rail from Copenhagen to Sweden’s vibrant second city, Gothenburg (journey time approximately three hours).

Set on Sweden’s beautiful west coast, Gothenburg is known for its maritime heritage, charming canals, thriving café culture, and picturesque archipelago islands. One of its most distinctive landmarks is the historic Fish Church (Feskekôrka), an impressive seafood market hall dating back to 1874.

Day Four: Gothenburg Tour & Train to Oslo

After breakfast, our local guide will take us on a guided coach tour of Gothenburg, where we'll discover some of the city’s most iconic sights and vibrant neighborhoods. Highlights include the unique Feskekôrka, where we might have the opportunity to sample some freshly caught seafood. The tour continues along the city’s main boulevard, Avenyn, a lively avenue lined with shops, restaurants, and cultural landmarks, culminating at Götaplatsen, home to the impressive Poseidon statue. We will also explore the charming historic district of Haga, known for its well-preserved wooden houses, cobbled streets, and inviting cafés, offering a glimpse into Gothenburg’s traditional character.

After lunch, we continue our journey by train to Oslo (journey time approximately three hours), traveling through scenic landscapes as we make our way towards Norway’s vibrant capital, set between the scenic Oslofjord and surrounding forested hills. Renowned for its striking blend of modern architecture, rich cultural life, and easy access to nature, Oslo offers a distinctive balance of city energy and natural beauty.

Day Five: Tour of Oslo

Day Five: Tour of Oslo

Today, we enjoy a guided tour of Oslo. Our tour begins with the elegant Royal Palace, the official residence of the Norwegian monarch, followed by a drive past the impressive City Hall, famous for its distinctive brick façade and role in hosting the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony. We continue to Vigeland Park, one of the world’s largest sculpture parks created by a single artist, where over 200 works by Gustav Vigeland are displayed in a beautifully landscaped setting. The tour also features the spectacular Oslo Opera House, a contemporary architectural masterpiece rising from the fjord like an iceberg.

A highlight of our day is a visit to the Bygdøy Peninsula, often referred to as Oslo’s “museum island.” Here, we will have the opportunity to explore Norway’s fascinating maritime and cultural heritage. Key museums include the Fram Museum, showcasing Arctic exploration aboard the legendary polar ship Fram, and the Kon-Tiki Museum, dedicated to Thor Heyerdahl’s daring ocean expeditions. The area also offers insights into traditional Norwegian life through its historic exhibits and preserved cultural artefacts. The afternoon is then at leisure for us to continue exploring at our own pace.

Travel Insurance

We strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance before any trip — it safeguards you against unexpected issues like illness, cancellations, or lost luggage. It also protects your health and travel investment, giving you peace of mind to fully enjoy your journey. Click here to learn more.

Important information
As part of health & safety we do require all our guests to be able to manage the demands of the trip. This will often include early starts with long days travelling by foot and on and off minibuses/coaches. You must be able to easily manage stairs and get on and off transport while carrying and lifting your suitcase. You also must be mindful that when visiting a country with different cuisine and culture, special dietary requests cannot always be made as readily available with great choice. Please see the day by day itinerary for details of the programme.  The order of the itinerary and events may be subject to change according to traffic, weather conditions and other unforeseen circumstances beyond control.
Dress code
The dress code for during the day is casual. In the evenings the dress code is smart casual. Comfortable shoes for walking and sightseeing are recommended.
Gratuities
There is often confusion on the question of gratuities, since it frequently depends on the type of holiday, location and, of course, your attitude towards tipping, as to what is normally expected. In order to give you a rough idea, we have given appropriate guidance below. Your Tour Leader will be on hand to offer advice or suggestions if required but gratuities are offered entirely at the sole discretion of the individual. We suggest a group collection to cover drivers, porters and hotel staff of 225 DKK/325 SEK or NOK.

Your Tour Leader will collect this on your behalf and distribute it accordingly, thus relieving you of the burden of who, when and how much to tip. The tipping of housekeeping will be left to your individual discretion (a small amount left in your room on departure should cover this and would be much appreciated). As is customary, ‘the hat’ will be passed around for the driver and guide on all optional excursions. For any meals that are not included in your itinerary, or taxi fares, your Tour Leader can advise of an appropriate add on.
Passport, Visa & Entry Requirements

We recommend that you check passport and visa requirements for the country you are visiting at the State Department if you have a U.S. Passport. Most countries require that your passport have at least six months validity when traveling internationally, and many require that you have one to two blank visa pages for either an entry stamp or visa. As a general rule, please check that your passport has six months validity beyond your planned trip, and if not, please renew your passport with plenty of time to provide Solos with your updated passport information by the final payment due date.

Not sure what travel documents you need? Our trusted partner, sherpa°, makes it easy to check visa and entry requirements based on your destination and passport. One quick check now means smooth sailing later. Click here to learn more.

Health Requirements

We recommend that you check if vaccinations are required for your destination at the CDC’s recommendations for your visited destination(s). We also recommend you purchase travel protection. A travel protection plan can often assist with medical emergencies and reimburse costs that are covered by the plan. Please verify coverage details with Solos before you travel.
