Why go skiing with Solos

From thrilling glacier descents in France to relaxed, picturesque runs in the Italian Alps, check out our solo ski holidays this January.

Once the magic of Christmas fades and winter truly sets in, it’s all too easy to think it’s time to hibernate indoors. But with Solos, it’s time to hit the slopes instead! January is often the sweet spot for a ski holiday. The busy festive crowds have gone, the snow conditions are typically at their most reliable and crisp, and you can enjoy pristine morning pistes followed by cozy après-ski evenings.

Whether you’re a total beginner heading to ski school, or a seasoned expert on the mountain, we have the perfect getaways lined up for the start of 2027. All of our trips are designed exclusively for solo travelers, so you never have to worry about finding a ski buddy, and you’ll be hitting the slopes with a sociable group of like-minded people.

Here are our five favorite ski trips departing this January:

1. Meribel, France

Best for: All abilities wanting ski-in/ski-out access to a massive ski area.

When: 9th January 2027 – 16th January 2027

Where you'll stay: Hotel Le Mottaret (3-star), Méribel-Mottaret

Meribel Ski

If you’re all about getting straight onto the slopes without any fuss, Méribel is your kind of place. Sitting at 1,750m/5,741ft, it’s the highest resort in the Méribel Valley and right in the heart of the legendary 3 Valleys, and has direct access to 600km/373 miles of interconnected pistes.

This premium alpine destination is a brilliant base for all levels. Beginners have a dedicated zone in the village, intermediates can cover serious ground hopping over to Val Thorens or Courchevel, and advanced skiers can chase fresh off-piste powder.

You’ll be staying at the stylish, ski-in/ski-out Hotel Le Mottaret, perfectly positioned right on the pistes. After a big day on the mountain, you can relax in the hotel’s wellness center—complete with a pool, jacuzzi, sauna, and steam room—before joining your fellow Solos for a five-course evening dinner.

When: 16th January 2027 – 23rd January 2027

Where you'll stay: Club Hotel Alpino (3-star), Folgaria, Trentino Alps

Skiing Folgaria

Nestled in the dramatic Trentino Alps, the pretty Italian resort of Folgaria is a true Solos favorite. With 100% snowmaking coverage across its slopes, it’s the perfect, reliable spot to perfect those parallel turns or learn how to tackle those tricky moguls at the end of the day’s skiing.

The resort is steeped in charm and history, with WWI fortresses dotting the skyline along the 'Skitour dei Forti' circuit. It’s an incredibly relaxed environment where you can enjoy expert tuition at the ski school, ski at leisure, or even try your hand at snow-shoeing and Nordic walking if you fancy a break from the downhill action.

You’ll stay at a friendly, family-run hotel in the village center. Evenings here are low-key and wonderfully authentic, including a special dinner out at an alpine lodge, complete with a memorable ride on a snow-cat!

Unlike many other big-name resorts, the slopes here are never overcrowded. At the end of each day, you can follow beautiful reds and blues down through the pine forests, straight back into a  traditional Swiss mountain village.
